What People are saying
Over priced and under maintained

Mold in the shower and rust stains in the sink ruin an otherwise OK room. TV reception is so bad as not to exist.
The rooms are large and spacious and the decor is friendly and contemporary. Reservations can be necessary cause the town is popular. Check other options first
Pleasant, but a little strange

The motel is conveniently located, and doesn’t fill up as fast as the Best Western.
Our double-queen room was pretty spacious, clean and surprisingly well lit. The air conditioning worked well after you bent down close enough to figure it out. The bathroom was clean with no mold, and the microwave and fridge worked OK, although the freezer section wouldn’t freeze anything. That happens more often than not with these small motel fridges.
The first strange thing was when we checked in. The gal walked us to the room to make sure we could get in. When we had trouble a few minutes later, the owner(?) suggested we try again in 20 minutes! It turned out that the electronic key lock was pretty finicky. Keeping the key in for 15-20 seconds seemed to help.
There were other strange things: The first day there was no maid service. That would bug some people, but we were OK, just a little surprised.
One of our party said the wi-fi didn’t work. The volume control on our TV remote seemed to be stuck on max, but I was happy to not have the TV on.
I couldn’t find an electrical outlet near the bed, and called the office. The owner came over and moved a mattress a couple of inches to expose an outlet.
Despite all these shortcomings, I really liked the Gold Country Inn, and will probably stay there again if I’m in the area.
Have no complaints

We were coming to the area for a concert and was trying to keep things reasonable so we called to book here. Guy was busy when I called, but took down my number and called me back a while later. Told him we would be traveling s few hrs, and he said he would make sure the room would be ready for an early checkin of noon, which was great. We actually got the more like 1:30 but the room was ready. The lady at the desk engaged in conversations about the concert we were there to see. Very nice staff. So we stayed in room 114. We do not expect a fancy room at these prices so we're not let down in the least. Yes the place is a bit dated. But it was clean. Had great pressure and endless hot water so that is always great. And they actually give you more towels then you need. 😉 now they are a pet friendly hotel which is ok with me because I too have pets. However, I was a bit put off when the folks in the next room brought their dogs and left. The dogs proceeded to bark and whine. Now this was daytime and no problem, but was not happy when I came in at 11:30 and they were still whining. But it did stop shortly. So no complaints. Almost though haha. Overall, it's good enough to stay the night here. Had a fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Slept fine. No complaints, only suggestions 😊
Over priced, no AARP rate as advertised, and worn out

No rooms were available anywhere near an event we were attending in Murphys. Of course the owner was aware of supply and demand, and we had no other choice but to pay his demand of $149 which was about $100 over priced for a worn out room.
I requested an AARP rate and was told that they were unavailable for the weekend we were attending and as an owner of a small business he was going to take advantage of this opportunity and offer AARP discounts. He was so arrogant that he even offered to cancel my reservation if I didn't like the rate.
Personally I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is run down and disgusting. The comforter was worn out and faded, and the blanket and towels were in worse shape than my car towels.
Perfect for the value

I attended a wedding on Sunday, October 26th in Murphys and tried to book a room closeby back in August but everything was full! I decided to check out Angels Camp closeby and found Gold Country Inn. It looked very clean and the price was great! Check-in was quick and the manager was very friendly. We had a downstairs room on the Western side of the building (there's a reason I mention this below). The room was big with lots of space, even with two queens inside. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay, and to get ready in the morning.
- The beds were clean but the blankets had cigarette holes in them. They were pretty well hidden, so they may not even know guests left that gift.
- The room had been recently remodeled so there was still unfinished trim. Not a big deal to me, because the price was great.
- NORMALLY I'd have given a 4-star because the ceiling is SO thin! By 7AM the people above us were up, and it was like someone was paced back and forth overhead for a solid 45 minutes while getting ready. I had a 5 hour drive the day before, and a 5 hour drive after the wedding so I REALLY wanted to sleep in but that did get us up and out for breakfast and getting ready and checked out at a reasonable time. Our friends in another room said the people above them woke them up at 6! So keep that in mind if you want to sleep in, find a means to blockout early morning noise above.
- Western room meant a beautiful morning with the window open. It represented the weather outside. When we went to our friends' room on the otherside, their room was much cooler so we could have overdressed if that was what we woke up to.
- We had breakfast next door. The restaurant was a good ol' greasy spoon style cafe but the food was pretty good and you had many decently priced options.
- Showers are hot! Didn't run out of it. Towels were a little thin, and the drain could have done its job better :)
We were a little sad we didn't have more time to check out Angels Camp, which is just a few minutes from the motel. Murphys was about 15-20 minutes.
Overall, Gold Country Inn met my requirements: I needed a place to stay that was close to Murphys. I wanted a place that was affordable for a single night. I wanted it to be clean, and I wanted to feel safe (two women). Oh, and we had plenty of room to get ready simultaneously for the wedding.
