What People are saying

Not worth the price

arnoldlyn on 17/11/2017 22:38

I thought the Graduate had an interesting design, which drew me to it. However, it's design was hit and miss. It's no Kimpton. Further, the price did not serve for the poor service or amenities. No robe in the bath, no room service at all, no follow up with coffee. I think the worst part for me was, any question for the concierge/front desk was answered with, 'Don't you have a cell phone? Can't you Google that?' Well sure, I can, but I paid around $180 bucks at a hotel in a town I've never been in for concierge service.

I asked the bartender on the ninth floor - 'What are those structures across the street?', pointing to some massive silos. He answered, 'Something about power?'

I asked the front desk, I'm looking for a down-home diner for breakfast on my way back to DC (they had nothing there other than day-old sandwiches) and the girl suggested the Pink Cadillac Diner and told me to look it up. I did (and thanks for nothing). It was an hour and more south of Cville, not the least on the way to DC.

Come on. EVERYONE who works there should know the town, the area, good places to go, and if not - they should find it for you.

Disappointing in and of itself, and sure not worth the money.

Very Enjoyable Stay!

After staying at a sub-par country inn the week before, it was refreshing to visit a hotel with no issues. Our overall reaction was very positive, for we loved the eclectic, school-themed decor. And it was honestly nice to vacation at hotel that was unique, totally non-generic, and with great attention to detail. (BTW... someone posted photos of the "rusty" pipes under the sink, not realizing that this was part of their re-purposed decor - which we loved!) Our rooms were funky, homey and fun; and the beds were very comfortable. All in all, we had a great stay and would highly recommend the Graduate!

The good news is that the rooms at the Graduate are nice sized and clean, and the hotel is in a good location. However, do your homework when your room is assigned because there are some very undesirable rooms in this hotel and we had two of them. Our first night we were given Room 620. Room 620 is directly under the rooftop bar/club on the 9th floor. We could hear the loud base from the music (even with earplugs) three floors down until the club closed at 1:30 am. I can’t imagine what the noise was like in 720 and 820. We asked to change rooms the following day. We were then given room 409, possibly one of the worst rooms in the hotel. It is located across from the elevators and next to the maintenance closet where the cleaning people stock their carts. We were placed in a block of rooms reserved for a wedding. At 11:00 pm these folks treated us to drunk yelling until 11:30 pm when we called the front desk and they addressed the situation. The air conditioning/heat fan in the room was noisy and ran at full blast no matter what we set the temperature at. If you changed the thermostat even one degree, it alternated between air conditioning or heat all at full blast, so you had to choose between sweating or freezing. We were woken early in the morning by the cleaning staff preparing their carts from the maintenance closet next to our room. Finally the water pressure in the shower was so low I did not wash my hair for fear I would not be able to get the soap out. We almost thought we were being punished for requesting the room change. After a two night stay we were frustrated and exhausted. Even though it was a nice hotel, we are going to stay somewhere else the next time we are in Charolottesville.

Poor service and room

I was here at this hotel with a friend here for a medical issue at the university of Virginia. First, there is some renovation going on. After three unsuccessful attempts at opening the door, we were told the door jam was the problem. No effort was made to remedy it. The receptionist was rude, hostile, her name badge said Marco yet she corrected us that this was not her name. We were requesting return of eyeglasses that valet stated was left with her. She practically interrogated us, not believing that eyeglasses were left with her. She smirked and laughed at me for letting her know she was rude. She felt her unpleasant demeanor was just fine. I spoke with the general manager Mr Ahmed and I explained the situation. I explained she might have had a single bad day, but that I doubted it. He confronted me and stated that Jt would be his job to evaluate it. It was hurtful and unnecessary. Don’t expect good customer service, or close to it. Same was true of the local coffee shop at the hotel, rushed and unpleasant.

The room itself is small, and does not even have a bureau to place clothing in. Far lesser hotels all have this. The shower door did not close fully. There is no microwave in the room yet they cater to college and medical center clients/patients so they say.

Do not stay here if you are I’ll, visiting the medical center or accompanying someone. You are bound to be disappointed. The combination of rudeness, lack of customer service and both poor room furniture or lack there if along with non functional doors, painting etc will not make for a pleasant experience.

The valet was the only polite and pleasant aspect. There is no convenient parking anywhere.

I cannot honestly recommend this hotel to anyone. If you are in the area for medical reasons or even a college event, I would stay away. The higher prices do not reflect the lower service and structure. You are practically bound to be disappointed.

Giving the hotel one star in and of itself is too much.

I have never been more disappointed .

Their rooms are soo unique, the hotel has a great twist. The staff are just amazing people. I went out at night for a drink and returned back hungry and wanted to buy something but the bar was closed.
The shift manager insisted that i should take a snack and leave without putting it on my room account.
Their food is soo fresh and tasty. The salads and their breakfast are amazing
