Anniversary Trip

My husband and I did a 5 night stay the end of October for our anniversary. We had a great relaxing time. The resort was beautiful and clean. Animals could be seen walking freely around. No disposable cups or dishes which was really great. Our room was comfortable and and the staff were attentive. They were friendly and very helpful. The resort is large but we l love to walk so it was no problem for us. We used the gym a couple of mornings and it was fine. The food was good and we never had a long wait at any of the bars. The Brazilian restaurant was my husband's favourite. I am a vegetarian but I enjoyed it as well as the salad bar is amazing (not just salads...) Overall the trip was great. But the cons were 1 )we didn't like having to take a trolly to the beach. It crosses through private property with security guards and you are not permitted to walk. The beach is kind of small and crowded. Water sports were great though. IF we came back with the kids would stay on the Tulum side close to the beach. 2) WIFI is not good. It was a real pain and all we really needed it for was to call home to check on the kids. Only works in the lobby and is very slow. Again the Tulum lobby seemed to work better. 3) was not impressed with the tiny dolphin tank.
Overall we had an amazing time and would consider coming back.
Amazing third trip back to Coba!

I've written two previous very-detailed reviews and didn't have much more to add. We visited this property in May 2017 and were extremely happy we did.
The room was kept clean and lovely. The mini fridge was kept topped up. We told them that we were celebrating a milestone anniversary and there was a banner on our door and champagne in our room!
The staff were excellent as always, the food was fabulous, and the property pristine. We paid a little extra to use the adults-only pool in the Akumal area and to have use of the buffet restaurants at all the resorts and it was worth every penny. We will definitely be back!
Nice but somethings to note! its more like a 4 star

We arrived for our week stay on November 1st. We chose this hotel because of the water park section for the kids however it was closed the whole time we were there due to remodelling and improvements... This shouldn't be an issue if you decide to travel now as it was almost at completion just before we left.
Hotel:
It was an overall nice looking hotel however, its starting to show its age...At least the building we were in. A lot of the buildings are under renovation to improve the aging rooms. The tub wouldn't plug so it made bathing the kids a bit of a challenge and a lot of the aesthetics are starting to wear simply due to its age. for example the knobs on some of the drawers would fall of when pulled making it a challenge when trying to open that drawer especially when it is to the mini bar :) the hotel grounds are very large and are comprised of 4 different hotels making it a bit cumbersome to get to the beach as its a 10 minute walk so you have to wait for the shuttle. The pools are beautiful and there are many. We stayed at the Coba's main pool as we had the kids and some others are adult only.
Food:
The was never a shortage of food to choose from. The main buffet is great however, the line ups for the eggs stations were always at least 6 people deep and took a good 10 - 15 minutes to get eggs...The pre-made scrambled eggs are "interesting" in that, they dont really taste like our North American eggs. The buffet at all pools are great as well.
Drink & Service:
People are there to serve you hand and foot so no worries there. As for drinks, if you are a Rye and Ginger or 7&7 type of person im sorry to tell you, 7up and Ginger ale dont exist here :( So Jack Daniels and Sprite will have to do...
Entertainment:
There is a variety of shows and nightly entertainment every night to the hotel centre and Hasienda plays or the theatre within the hotel grounds. The are great and are great amount of work and effort go towards them...
Overall:
Would i go back probably not... Unless I heard they went through an extreme overhaul and renovation, for a 5 star its dated and needs improvement.
Interesting place...

I’m 71 and it was a last minute booking for me and my wife. We holiday fairly often and we’re surprised by the setup. It’s actually 4 resorts in one and is so big it takes 7 mins by road train from one end to other, various trains going in all directions so walking is reduced considerably.
Our accommodation was very nice, twin double beds as requested. Bathroom with a jacuzzi bath, very unusual! Very clean.
All restaurants visited were good, very pleasant staff and conditions and nice food.
Pools were cleverly organised with noise at one including kiddies pool with loads of slides etc and going quieter as you move away.
Our favourite was the quietest called The Iguana where the barman (Jose) was absolutely excellent and was enjoyable to chat to. We also enjoyed the other jacuzzi pool and it’s barman (Erik).
I was disappointed with the beach and adjacent sea. The adult only areas were brilliant though.
We did have a bit of a problem with very rowdy neighbours, fight, and reported them, the security was very prompt and we had no further problems. All in all I was aware that the management was pretty good in all aspects, well organise. Ground maintenance was very good. Transport luggage handling al excellent.
The resort in general is ok for wheelchairs. Free WiFi was ok and available at all lobbies.
There is free entertainment most nights, quite expensive at The Hacienda otherwise! I found the introduction every night extremely loud and unpleasant the volume so loud it makes you feel sea sick! I found the solution was to arrive 10 late when the show actually starts. The shows themselves were quite good.
Not a Five Star- Rooms have Mold !!

Hotel grounds are average, food is basic, I believe this is only a five star due to a casino being on the property but I would rate this a 3.5 star resort. It does not have the elegance or class of other five star resorts in the same area.
Our experience was terrible due to our room smelling like mold. We complained to management and asked for a new room. However we were told the resort is too busy there were no other rooms available.
On our third night stay our ceiling caved in due to water damage. We went to the front desk and we were told that in a few days a repair man could patch the room up and we would be all set. We asked for a new room which we were told yet again that they are too full and do not have anything available.
At this point we escalated to management who were willing to give us a new room later that day. No upgrade or credit given to us and we had to fight with management for a simple late check-out.
Do not waste your time or money here.
