A great way to enjoy 2 different aspects of Macau - mix up the casinos, noise, music and the crowd with a bit of nature and calmness. This hotel does not have a casino. I would suggest splitting your time between the two islands If you are staying for more than a couple of nights.
Yes, like many have mentioned, the hotel is dated. We also struggled to order dinner the first night as they had run out of everything we were choosing!
The breakfast however was good. We did not try the buffet. The pool area is nice and one can walk around the property with views of the sea.
There is a shuttle bus but you will have to book/wait. Factor that into your planning, especially while returning to the hotel.

I agree that in concept this resort had potential and grandeur, however the place is empty and run down. Feels very dilapidated. The worst thing for me is the state of the beach. I've attached a photo. The water is dirty and a lot of trash has washed up from China. Sorry but avoid this place.

The location of the hotel is quite far from the city center, but it would be a perfect place for a quiet vacation and for relaxation. They have a big swimming pool and the facilities were great.
What made me disappointed was that the staffs were not clear about the promotions and packages offered by the hotel. I purchased a Halloween package online and it stated that a goodies pack would be offered and that there would be a late check out till 2pm. However, I had to call the front desk to ask for the goodies pack and a staff called at 12 noon to tell us to check out when I have already confirmed with the front desk that my check out time is 2pm.
Moreover, some other hotel guests on the same floor as my stay ordered room service and the leftover food and utensils were left outside their room, in the corridor, for over 12 hours without anyone cleaning them up. The housekeeping staff didn't even pick them up when they did their housekeeping duties during the day. I was a bit surprised by the hygiene and service of this hotel.

I imagine that when this property was conceived, it was a beautiful beachfront showpiece that was built for families and golfers to spend vacations enjoying the water and nearby golf course. I'm not sure what's happened in the intervening years, but this hotel is now solely appropriate for golfers hoping to stay close to the course.
What once was a grand entry is now a nice but sparsely decorated (and aging) lobby area. The rooms are tired, with dated carpet and furniture. It's kept fairly clean, and it didn't feel at all luxurious.
We chose this hotel for its proximity to the beach, hoping to spend some time with our toes in the sand. Instead we found the only exits toward the beach gated, locked, and topped with barbed wire. As we looked down the beach, we noticed packs of stray dogs from a distance. Apparently it's their beach now. It seems like such a terrific waste of perfectly nice beachfront property.
With no beach to explore, we decided to head to Coloane Village. We asked about getting there ... no shuttle to the village except on the weekends (it was Wednesday). Is it walkable? Again no. We were directed to the city bus. No problem; the bus stop is right at the hotel entry on the main road. We took the bus about 15 minutes into town and hopped off. There are several quaint cafes (we took breakfast at Lord Stowe's garden cafe - lovely and delicious), and a few temples, but not much more. An hour into exploring we felt like we'd seen all that we needed to see. Another bus ride and we were at the strip and near Taipa Village, where there is so much more to eat, see and do.
This resort might really be the ticket if you're looking to get far away from the madness of Macau's casinos, especially if you're looking to play a round or two of golf. I can't imagine any other reason to go this far south and stay at a beachfront resort with absolutely no beach access.
Side note: If there was a shuttle from the airport, we didn't know about it. We tried to take a city bus to the resort, but it was our very first experience on the Macau buses, and it was late at night. We got turned around and ended up in Cotai on the strip. Instead of wandering around in the dark trying to find the right stop heading the right way, we just grabbed a taxi. He was not pleased about having to drive "all the way" to Coloane and tried to charge us extra for the gas he used to get there. So word of warning ... not only is there nothing around the resort, it's also completely inconvenient to get there!

In Macau it’s really hard to find a good hotel that isn’t overrun with all the casino action. Grand Coloane was a great hotel that offered distance from the casinos and had a great view. It looks like each room has its own balcony which is a plus. Sitting outside in the morning was a great way to start the day. They offer free shuttles to almost everywhere in town. The posts about this being an “older” hotel are true. But I think it’s something that can easily be overlooked if you aren’t too picky.
