Imponent building but that's all
JLBossaon 22/10/2017 23:55The place looks great, it's bigger than the rest of the hotels there. The prize is higher for want you can expect.
The rooms are ok, buy too noisy, you could hear all time the flush of the toilets, the conversations of the people in other rooms. The bathroom was uncomfortable, too small. The breakfast was one of the top things there and of course the view was great but I've been in other hotels cheaper and with the same view.
Great location, beautiful view!
Jannelafon 16/10/2017 22:28Excellent location, walkable to everything you need, and beautiful view from our room! It was a very large room, comfortable bed. Large windows opened to give a great view of the beach across the street. It's a beautiful hotel, and loved walking out the door to the beach, and hearing the ocean waves crashing.Good and very plentiful breakfast
Great hotel.
Joethecritiqueon 11/10/2017 17:51We were switched to this hotel from an original booking which closed. There, I can't comment on the value. The room was great with amazing Sea view. It was clean with adequate size. Breakfast was good but not great. I have had much better in Europe. The location is perfect.
Nice pool, good access to beach, reasonable luxury
SydneyTraveller123on 20/08/2017 20:49This is a four star hotel right and proper - not three, not five. It is just across the road from the beach, directly adjacent to the old town with lots of eateries, plus it has a decent size pool (almost 25 metres, I think). Service is very friendly. The breakfast buffet is decent enough, although the scrambled eggs looked rather diluted and the fruit juice is concentrate rather than fresh.
We wanted to unwind by the sea (and get away from the city heat) and it did the job perfectly. Like many of Italy's beaches, Arenzano too is infested with "stabilimenti" - private beach clubs which charge around 40 euros per day for a sun bed and parasol and crucially (and illegally) try to prevent access to the beach for people who just want to swim. That means lots of people crowd into the tiny remaining "spiaggia libera" ("free beach"), which is typically a narrow, nasty affair with grey, rocky sand. So too here. The draw with the Arenzano Grand is that you can base yourself by the hotel pool, hop across the road for a nice salt-water swim and then shower and stretch out by the pool again.
I would definitely recommend a sea view room, although there is a nice terrace with a view on the first floor, if you want to save some money.
4 Star location and pool, 3 star hotel
Yas46on 16/08/2017 20:14The location (just across a road to the beach in a small town) and the lovely 25 metre pool makes this a 4 star hotel. So many other issues do not:
Staff: very few of the staff are friendly or helpful. When you pass the main desk they hardly ever give a cheerful hello. We stayed a whole week and there was no recognition from anyone that they had seen us before!
Room: The seaview is lovely and the bed was large, firm and comfortable. The shower water was strong and a good temperature. However. because there is a bidet next to the toilet, you have to be a midget to sit on the toilet without touching the shower-see photo. The shower leaked every day so we had to put towels down around the floor on the toilet-horrible! The floor was laminated, which was lovely, and the cleaner was very good as it always looked spotless.
Pool: 25 metres was lovely and generally kept clean. Pool is open from 9.00-19.00 but sometimes you can't get a towel until nearer 10 o'clock. Some selfish people would put things on the sunloungers by 8 and turn up at midday, but what can management do. Generally the sun loungers were mostly occupied.
Pool toilets: Were absolutely disgusting!!!-how anyone can call them 4 star toilets I have no idea. They are not even sign posted at the back of the pool area next to a broken bike and old inflatables, no one has thrown away. I attach photos of the toilet and the toilet brush was vile-surely management you have to improve these facilities.!
Breakfast buffet: The main waitress in charge was surly and showed no sign that we had been there for 7 days. She never once offered to make us coffee and so we had to go to the machine and could not get lattes. We realised that the Italians staying got served coffee to the table, so, although English, we got one of the other waitresses to bring coffee lattes for us instead.
There was what appeared to be overcooked, cold, processed eggs instead of scrambled eggs next to cold bacon in large tureens. They had heaters underneath which were never lit. You could boil your own boiled egg but no toaster to toast the one sort of bread in. There was a fair mix of mix of cereals, yoghurts, cakes, 3 sorts of croissants, ham and cheese and some fruit, a little of which was fresh. It was the same choice every day-rather boring once you've been there for 7 days.
Cook restaurant: Read my separate review on this, but I gave it 1 star-no idea what Michelin service is supposed to be like.
Parking: The parking is not adequate for the number of guests, so you have to give you key in and let them play musical cars all week moving the cars around. We have a brand new car, so , fortunately,we found a quiet spot in the corner and didn't use it for a week! We were very concerned about any comebacks of scratches on our new car.
I would go back again if I heard that improvements were made to the facilities. It is a lovely, imposing hotel set in a lovely little seaside town on the riviera. Let's hope the owners can make some improvements to make it really a 4 star quality.
