Nice room, not small, but with a few extras. Close to the city and the underground, takes only half an hour to get to the railway station. The attractions are also close, the Stephansplatz is only 20 minutes walk or a few stops with the underground.

Very good Hotel downtown Vienna.
Close to the River and to the Canal.
The Grand Hotel Mercure is the right choice if you want to have access to the most important touristic attractions with walking distances.
Classic style.
Price adjusted to the quality.

I spent one night after having travelled for business purposes. I would love to come back on holidays also. At about 7 minutes walk from the main station, where CAT train arrives straight from the airport, the entrance is from a side alley very characteristic, it kind've took me back in time.
I had a double room single use, not large, but comfortable.
Who wants to stay in the hotel room too much anyways, while in Vienna?!
Breakfast good, coffee bad..but, I live in Italy so it's hard to have a good coffee abroad in any case!

Situated on two sides of a narrow alleyway with its own wienstube, the Grand Hotel Beidermeier does not have immediate 'kerb appeal'. On arrival my reception was unfriendly and unhelpful. This was only the one receptionist. Other reception staff were pleasant and efficient, but first impressions count.
My room was a good-sized double on the 3rd floor with a large shower room. Very much the standard that I expect of a Mercure, but the room was dark and the lighting was poor. The TV had few foreign channels. No BBC World Service so I watched Euronews in French.
Breakfast was in an airy conservatory/cafe. The bar and restaurant were small, narrow and gloomy. I ate dinner in the hotel as I could not find anywhere other than coffee shops or fast food outlets in the vicinity. Perfectly adaquate hotel food at a reasonable price. I never found the spa.

Stayed here for two nights prior to going on a Danube river cruise.
Situated just outside the city down a traditional Viennese cobbled alley way.
This was a nice hotel, very traditional in style and atmosphere. Nothing modern or nouveau about it.
Nice room with double bed, bathroom and all the usual bits, TV etc. Room was overlooking the alley way and was therefore nice and quite, no traffic noise.
Hotel is within easy reach of the metro and busses to get into the city, but for the more energetic the city is a 15min walk away.
Breakfast is served in the bar come diner. Its buffet style has everything that you would want, as well as a chef making omelettes to order.
Had one evening meal at the hotel, which was based on traditional Austrian fare, also very nice and not too expensive!
Staff were extremely helpful and fell over themselves to make sure you were looked after.
No complaints about the hotel at all. Would not hesitate to go back if I ever got to Vienna again.
