The staff were extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and fun. Food was top notch. Views from our room were amazing. Location is central to everything. Truly the best hotel we have stayed in, bar none. Most memorable moment would be sitting on our balcony at the end of the day having a beer overlooking the lake. I wish I was there now.

Lovely old fashioned hotel. Very clean with beautiful old furniture. Views are to die for. Lovely terrace if you select a lake view suite. Fitness centre with spa is wonderful. Natural indoor swimming pool is so refreshing.

A return visit to the Grand Toplice in Bled showed it had hardly changed in 17 years. We enjoyed coffee and cake in the hotel's little cafe with wonderful views towards the lake - and, surprisingly for a late Sunday morning in the otherwise busy resort, had it to ourselves.
There's an interesting exhibition adjacent to the café on the hotel's history. The only pity is that the building doesn't retain much of the patina or character of the original hotel - judging from the exhibition, this was probably stripped away in a major 'renovation' in 1967-68.

This hotel is part of the small leading hotels (SLH) group. It is historical not a modern luxury hotel. The service was perfect. We were offered helpful advice several times from reception. They made us feel most welcome. After being there and seeing the other hotels we also considered, I am happy with our choice of staying at the Grand Hotel Toplice. The location is the best, right on the lake. They offer you the chance to take their wooden rowboats out on the lake and to the island if you like. Very romantic and perfect. We had a lake view room with a terrace which was wonderful. Looking over the lake was magical. I would love to return here. You feel like you have stepped into a previous era. And I enjoyed that.

With a fabulous history it’s ashame this hotel is in decline. It felt like time had stopped and I was in a Scott Fitzgerald novel. It is by no measure 5 star outside of the dining areas. The position is the best on the lake, but it’s time to give this old gal an much needed update! From common area furnishings to the very uncomfortable beds/pillows. I will complement them on the Breakfast it was delicious and with that view! But the staff could try and crack a smile once and a while. With a serious face lift this old dame could be revived and relive it fabulousness.
