Classical elegance

This was a fleeting one night stop en route to Sorrento on a Friday night in November. We got stuck with a mis-booking at the wrong place and just needed some safe comfort for the night before reviewing our plans for our 3 day stay in Campania.

The staff were helpful, the rooms classically extravagent, and grand where ever you look.

Our room was mid range, and overlooked the side, which gave us views of the marina and sea, plus a good look down the pristine street to the side.

There is a roof top restaurant which in only for diners unfortunately as we just needed a drink with a view. Fine dining all the way and top prices.

I can't fault the staff or service or helpfulness. This place saved our bacon and will be well remembered.

Outstanding Hotel

After touring multiple locations in Italy we spent 3 night at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio before leaving for Ravello. This is an exquisite hotel definitely worth 5 stars. Napoli may not be the destination of choice for travelers but if you’re going to the Amalfi Coast it’s likely that you’re going to fly, take a train or other transportation through Napoli. If you have spend time there be sure to pick this hotel. The rooms are excellent and the staff are first class in customer service.

Good all round proposition for a Naples stay

Rooms well appointed and spacious , the bar service for drinks and meals was excellent at both lunch and in the evening . The service was also of a high standard in the restaurant , although the menu is somewhat limited. General areas in the hotel were comfortable and nicely furnished.

We were really pleased to be down by the bay where it is lovely,safe and more relaxing than the rest of the city. The hotel itself was beautiful. I did not spring for bay view but from our tiny balcony we could see it. The staff was friendly and attentive.

I really can not understand why other people are rating this hotel as 5 stars!!
I am using a 5 star hotel in amalfi to compare against the grand vesuvio.
1) the bedroom - the bed was twin beds zipped together and uncomfortable
2) there was no USB charging points in the room
3) the safe was tiny and unable to hold an IPad never mind a laptop
4) I’ve had better bathrooms in the holiday inns / premier inns at a fraction of the price than this room !! The shower was tiny my husband is a standard sized 6 foot tall man and couldn’t fit underneath it- the area was cold and uninviting.
5) the dressing gown was tired and had a hole in it - I asked for a replacement as received an equally tired dressing gown
6) breakfast - after being served beautiful freshly cooked breakfast in my previous hotel - hotel vesuvio served tired food - the salmon tasted off as it had not been kept chilled - there was no omelette station - omelettes were under a heater and dry. The pastries were dry and had been sat on a heater for ages
7) spa - you can only use this area if you pay extra €15 per person - it’s not included !!
8) the cleaners, cleaned the room above by dragging the furniture across the floor - it was 7:30am
9) whilst I appreciate the historical nature of the hotel - seriously the carpets could be replaced or at least cleaned in the lobby
10) partial sea view room - meant if I stood in 1 place on my balcony you could just about see the sea
11) the only view of Vesuvius is on the roof top
12) the restaurant on the roof top served a very limited menu and was very over priced for the quality it served.
As you can tell - we were not impressed - the 4 star hotel we stayed in, on our first night in Naples - at a fraction of the price of the grand hotel vesuvio - had a better quality room - had a better view of Vesuvius and better quality breakfast !
