What People are saying

Marvellous

aidenov on 08/11/2017 23:56

We went to grand hotel villa politi in syracuse sicily on 28th Oct. It is a hotel first built in 1862.
For travellers to sicily, this hotel is definitely worth staying in.it had all the old world charm but all the comforts of a modern hotel. The staff were extremely warm and friendly and do everything they can to look after their guests. The evening dinners in the hotel allow you to taste sicilian cooking at its best.
The hotel is built atop an ancient Greek quarry which has over the centuries been turned into wonderful almost subterranean gardens.fresh citrus fruits grow there in abundance and I even aye a fresh pomegranate off one of the trees.at this time of year the gardens only open on Sundays.
The pool area of the hotel is super as are little nooks and crannies outside the hotel where you can sit, have a coffee and peer down into the wonderful gardens below.the entrance to the hotel is up a lovely outdoor neoclassical staircase although an escalator is also provided for heavy suitcases.
There's a lovely seated area outside the front door, again looking down into the ancient gardens fresh mint plants grow along this area providing a wonderful scent.
The rooms in the hotel are clean and decorated in classical style maintaining the traditional classical feel that pervades the whole hotel.
Within 20 minutes walk to the south is the ancient beautiful city of ortigia with its narrow cobblestone streets and beautiful baroque and rococo buildings and also remains of the ancient Greek temple of apollo. Twenty minutes walk to the west is the ancient neapolis gardens which has a full ancient Greek theatre ,a roman colloseum style theatre and the cave ear of dionysius. The red bus hop on hop off tour of the city stops 300 metres from the hotel.
The weather was beautiful with 24 degrees each day..south of syracuse are some beautiful beaches such as aranella ,fontane bianche and marzamemi which is one of the most beautiful port towns i have seen and is worth a trip.
I will be going back. It was wonderful.Akready thinking of booking into the hotel for October next year.😎

Wonderful week

We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The location is about a 30-40 min walk from Ortigia, which wasn't a problem for us as the hotel is so well placed to drive to other interesting places to visit. We enjoyed the very generous breakfast every day with so much choice, all delicious. The location was perfect, rooms comfortable and spotlessly cleaned every day. We found all the staff to be so friendly and helpful. With particular thanks to Christian and Ivan who looked after us, made the best cocktails and were friendly and attentive at all times - they worked so very hard! We ate evening meals at the hotel on two occasions and the food was excellent - much better than we had been expecting for such a large hotel. Overall, the standard was excellent. Thank you for your hospitality.

Very comfortable and good amenities. Betty and other staff were very attentive and helpful Eg with car rental. Breakfast is a great offering, muesli, juice, yoghurt, coffee, fruit, bread, eggs, as well as cakes and sweet things. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was a good standard and reasonably priced. The bar (Drago?) down the road also has good pizza, cakes, coffee etc, there also tens or hundreds of restaurants in downtown Syracuse near Ortigia and especially in Ortigia itself.
The hotel is some distance 2 km (not very scenic) walk from Ortigia. Taxi drivers from the station will overcharge. The hotel has good parking included, so hiring a car is a good option. Avis is at the entrance to Ortigia. An option could be to stay 2 days here and some more time in Ortigia, Ragusa or other scenic town.
Overall, we recommend Hotel Grand Villa Politi and very much enjoyed our stay as a nice peaceful place with excellent service and facilities.

Loved this hotel it is just as it must have been when it was built.
Comfortable rooms.
The pool looked lovely but too cold to swim in November
The breakfast is really good everything you would want great coffee
We ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing and we loved the happy hour
The staff were lovely

Faded elegance

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived so we had to wait while coffee was served. We were told that we had been given an upgrade. The room was much smaller than expected; there was too little space to store our clothes; the bedcover was threadbare as were the bath towels; the shower was cramped and mouldy and the door seal broken; a bedside lamp was hanging askew. We had a front-facing room but the view was limited. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu looked impressive but the quality of the food left much to be desired. One night we ordered veal but it was so tough it was inedible. The hotel itself is a beautiful building, just over a mile from the centre of Syracuse. There is a convenient bus that allows visitors to hop on and off at local sites of interest.
