What People are saying

Reception staff need to have more oversight for their conduct

Joe H on 19/11/2017 18:59

My dad just got back from this hotel and has been staying with 2 other couples. Last night they asked for 3 cabs to Mayfair ( maybe a 2 mile journey?) And the guy in reception went to get them a cab. His first quote was £300 for 3 cabs and they just laughed as they genuinely thought it was a joke. He was serious. He then dropped it to a 'generous' £200. They ended up getting a black cab outside of the hotel and it cost £18 to Mayfair for each cab. If someone asking for the can wasn't a native who knew he area they would have been totally ripped off and it's so unfair and out of order, no-one deserves that. Really poor service and from an otherwise reputable hotel chain.

Great location, great staff but let down by an uncomfortable bed and tired decor

Andrew K on 15/11/2017 14:44

This is a very British hotel - and not in a good way. It has a feeling of slighly faded glory to it, and while the staff were great, and my room (307) was clean, the decor looked a bit tired, and the whole place could do with a revamp. My room was too warm, even though the radiator was not on, and my bed was pretty uncomfortable. Also, the led ceiling lights did not switch off completely, so there was a constant dim flickering throughout the night.

It's in a fairly quiet road (assuming no students from UCL nearby are maurauding), and if you want to get to the British Museum or Holborn it's very well located.

not worth the money!

I was given a room on the first floor directly next to the elevator and it felt like the elevator was running through my room. As a result, from 6 am onwards, I had no chance to sleep. The room is tiny (so small you can use the desk sitting from the bed as there is no space for a chair), but clean, and with a good wifi connection. Bathroom was ok, if not for the fact that the balcony window is directly next to the toilet. Thus to you the choice to use the bathroom in full view of the street and neighbors or use the unhygienic heavy (cloth) curtains... For almost 200 GBP a night you'd expect to have breakfast, but no, breakfast is not included...

Not the latest in decor but by no means unpleasant

After much searching of the usual crazy prices (£140 for a Travelodge etc.) we chose this hotel entirely on it's combination of price and location - An exceptional deal (£72) for a Friday night (and including breakfast, although didn't get up in time!). In a pleasant street near leafy Russell Square, backing onto the British Museum and only 15 mins amble to Covent Garden and 6-7 mins to either Russell Square or Holborn tube stations. Asked for a quiet room and our 3rd floor, rear garden facing room was indeed nice and quiet. Decor is rather 1990's but not in a bad way and reception staff very pleasant. Will stay again if deal is similar.

Hygiene Issues

Travelled to London as part of work and stayed at this hotel on Saturday 28th October with 6 other colleagues. Room was average nothing special, but did notice that the elevators were extremely loud as my room was located adjacent to the lift shaft. I got to bed early as i had to be up early the next day, nipped to the toilet in the night and when returning to my bed i flipped the pillow and saw faeces smeared across the back of the pillow. Absolutely disgraceful, i travel around a lot with work and i have never experienced such a disgusting hotel. Had i not travelled with my colleagues and had to be up early, i would have left the hotel but as it was the middle of the night i had no option to stay. Will not be re-booking this hotel, and i recommend you don't either.
