I went to Guangzhou last year and I went to Guangzhou hotel. The hotel is quite good with river view from our room. The receptionist are not fluent in english so I a little bit hard to check-in here. The hotel location is very good. Near MRT and Bus station to the airport. And there have many mall around the hotel. But overall this hotel is good

We spent 6 days at Guangzhou Hotel at Haizhu Square, in a suite. The best part is the location, it is located right next to subway station exit, at the most busy transport hub in the city, minutes from many wholesale markets.
Out room has a front river view with 2 bridges which light up beautifully, one in rainbow constantly changing colors.
It is a famous hotel, everyone knows it, but also 50 years old hotel, room condition is old, shower is not good, breakfast is poor. Service was older Chinese hotel style, good enough but not too friendly.
There is no heater in the room, March is not cold, room is sort of chilly, temp controls don't have temp control, you can't have heat, only cool air. This is not good.
First suite shower was old and cheap, couldn't get steady hot water, changed to a "new and remodeled" suite, which was also old, but at least shower was good enough. Sofas are heavy Chinese furniture, uncomfortable to sit on.
We will stay here again, simply because the the location is super convenient for us.

This hotel centrally located and very convenient. The rooms are adequate in size but because of its age, it's also quite dated (especially in the standard rooms). The upgraded rooms are larger and have more modern amenities.

Located near a well connected tube line, and Beijing road pedestrian market. That's where the positives end.
To begin with the hotel would not allow us to pay for our full stay (originally 5 nights) but insisted we would have to pay each day.
Upon getting to our floor we were greeted by an awful stench of cigarettes, our room was exactly the same.
The room itself had a gigantic bed, but features like the some of the lights did not work, and looked dated compared to downstairs.
On our third night we heard constant shouting in the hallways, followed by someone ENTERING OUR ROOM while we were in bed, despite us shouting. The person I believe was a cleaner who also entered during the day. She didn't speak any english, but all she could muster was to point to the do not disturb sign, which should be a given at 10pm! We never did get an explanation. I suspect she was looking for a room that wasn't being occupied.
Icing on the cake was when we saw one of the managers pin another member of staff against the wall in anger in front of many members of staff and customers!
Luckily because we hadn't paid up front for the room we were able to leave earlier than planned. There's not much to do in Guangzhou anyway, apart from a few over priced pedestrian markets, a dodgy electronics market, and a safari park (which was good the only good thing we did)
Would recommend staying away from the hotel and the city
