What People are saying

Beyond exceptional!

Stuart_G865 on 22/09/2017 22:54

This is less review, more eulogy!

Coming to this hotel is a sort of 'Alice in Wonderland' experience. More parallel universe that you have dreamed of . . . rather than, a luxury accommodation you were expecting to arrive at.

Remarkably, last time I looked, TripAdvisor rated this hotel as #2 out of 3 in Comala. The rating would be more realistic if it said: #2 in the world! Seriously! I have been fortunate to stay in a lot of 5* hotels - some really nice - but the Hacienda is in a different league - simply amazing.

In reality this is the hotel I have been hoping to find all my life . . . and I have to accept I may never find another to match it. My wife and I were, without exaggeration, treated like royalty in a truly spectacular setting (and for spectacular I mean S P E C T A C U L A R).

This is the type of place a billionaire can stay in and feel very gratified. If, like me, you are not a billionaire . . . here you can live like one for a few days, a week, a fortnight, as long as you can afford it. It's not a cheap hotel . . . but for me the value was exceptional! I am convinced it is not even run for a profit. There are dozens of ways this hotel could change how it operates to save money. It has a full time member of staff to produce lots of different cheeses exclusively for guests and produces it's own coffee and has a huge staff to guest ratio. Here, you really are a guest.

The staff were incredible but I give a special shout out to Carlos.

If you are reading this review - well done. Look no further. This place is beyond exceptional.

Magical experience!

I fell in love with the Hacienda. From the start, what struck me the most was the active volcano! We stayed at the Grand Suite “El Quetzal” which faces the volcano. I was hypnotized by it from the start. During the day and at night you can simply step out on your balcony and watch it exhale or merge with the pink sky at sunset.
We did not do much activities outside the Hacienda as we just loved the gardens ant the pool but the one tour we made in their Ranch was amazing. Not to say, our guide hilarious... It is incredible to see how little the human presence has had its way in there.
I would highly recommend the Hacienda for a romantic and exciting getaway. The mix between peaceful surroundings, lush vegetation and having an active volcano at plain sight was just perfect.
Stayed from the 12th to the 15th of February.

Fantastic!!!

Organic home-produce, byo-dinamic farming, unspoiled nature, active volcano…. can it get any better??
When travelling I try to find places which serve a purpose other than humoring tourists. The Hacienda caught my eye from the moment I called to inquiry about the place. Promoted less than they should, the Hacienda has an almost 5000 acres organic Ranch where almost all restaurant produce is obtained. They have their own coffee plantation and factory, cheese factory, orchards and animals.
Apart from that, the highlight was horseback riding through the ranch up till a meadow where we had a Basket Picnic next to a lagoon and a stunning view to the Volcano!
Staff was welcoming, food rejuvenating and the scenery like no other.

Feel Like Royalty in a Breathtaking Setting

To think that a family lived here and enjoyed the gorgeous grounds is amazing to me. I took advantage of the horseback riding and found myself trotting through fields of tuberose beneath the active volcano in the background. It was such a glorious feeling. The hosts are warm and friendly, the food delicious and the hospitality out of another era. It was positively the best experience I've had in a decade. I cannot wait to go back again.

Beautiful hotel, vandalizes your wallet, hidden charges, shady owners

We went for a wedding. The Hacienda hadn't been very busy for several months prior. We were told (afterwards) from the staff, that they were told it was okay, a wedding was booking the entire place, and they would make up in the losses over the past months. When you are a guest there, you are charged for 3 meals a day, whether you eat it or not (at their $75 a plate rates), activities that we were told were included, were at last minute charged to our bill. Checking out, the entire wedding party was shocked when our bills were double (and sometimes triple) than was negotiated when we booked.

The grounds are breathtaking, staff is extremely friendly, It would have been amazing had the owners been honest with the true expense to stay as a paying customer (not a free stay they give to people who write for the travel blogs). No one likes to go from an amazing experience to being ripped off. If you go, get everything in writing, and bring copies with you. Make sure you specify your meals in advance, what you will and will not pay for. If you do all that, you should have an amazing time~
