Dissapointing, run-down hostel

mollybsimpson2 on 29/10/2017 00:23

My boyfriend and I travelled to Dublin for a couple of nights with my parents this week. We stayed at this hostel and had an idea of what to expect as we have visited many hostels over the years. Unfortunately this hostel was very very poor. My parents room was outside in a 'bunker' type room. They had no heating or hot water (the hot water was put on after bringing this to the attention of the owner). The room had lots of dry rot, the tiles in the shower were being held on by gaffa tape, the mirrors were all smashed as were the plugs, the toilet seat was uneven and rotten at the bottom. It felt generally unclean and unkept. The room my boyfriend and I had was better, however the room was still cold and the window had a large crack in it as did all the plugs and the base of the bed was all ripped.

The bed was comfy however and the price was good considering the location, we could walk into the city centre in 20minutes. The breakfast provided was very minimal (cearal and toast) but we had the option of being able to put our own food and drink in the members kitchen.

I wouldn't go back here again! But we didn't let it spoil the holiday. Thankfully my parents are used to 'roughing it' and going camping. However if I was in their room, I would not have been happy AT all!

The chap running the place was pleasant enough, however he seemed over worked and he needs to give the place some TLC. Even the ironing board was horrendous!!!

A typical lower grade hostel, with his faults.

Great service to have a small breakfast in the morning, this was actualty a bit unexpected. The hostel has his faults with the comfort of the beds, heating, shower and hygiene. But over all a cheap place to stay for a short citytrip in Dublin.

Unacceptable.

The hostel is located in an ok area not far from the centre. We booked a 4 bed room just for the two of us. The room was in a dependance across a small backyard. I am giving the worst review possibile because of a major hygienical issue: the room had no window but a 40x40 cm hole in the ceiling, sealed with transparent plastic, not opening. There was a private toilet with no window nor working vent. I repeat: no window in the room, no window nor working vent in the toilet. Heating could not be adjusted and the temperature was extremely high. Since fresh air is surviving-minimum even for convicted criminals, even for beasts, i think that the conditions offered were unacceptable. The assistent told me ut was a "budget room" so there may be better ones in the hostel.

Holiday show at RDS Dublin

I stayed here on Friday & Saturday 27th & 28th Jan.
Olton on the desk was very helpful and accommodating. I was with three of my other colleagues room was a bit small, cleanliness was ok, bathroom: shower needs fixing as water goes everywhere get really cold at night as the heating is taken off.
We were able to use the kitchen from after 10.00 am to 9pm this facility was clean. I didn't send much time there as we were working most of the day. Overall it was ok. Easy to get to good supermarket in the area. Transport was also very good.

It did its job but nothing more!!!!

Cheap and close enough to the city centre!

Rooms were ok but really worn and were in big need of renovation!!!

Breakfast was nothing special and the breakfast room so small so that there were not enough seats for everyone!

There are, or at least should be, better cheap places in Dublin!!!!
