I have been there during August 2017. Quite central, the two bedroom I have stayed in was quite nice, clean and with plenty of space. Bathrooms were also cleaned. short walk distance to almost anywhere in Cairns

Me and my daughter just stayed at this hotel for 3 nights 1st Nov to 4th Nov, we found this hotel absolutely fine, its basic but does the job, we found cairns extremely hot so the aircon in the room was a god send, the receptionist Cheryl was brilliant, she helped us out loads, very knowledgeable on trips and helped with bus routes etc, all staff were friendly and it's always a bonus when free breakfast is included, i would stay here again as very central and close to everything, the lagoon is only a 5 min walk away.

We chose this hotel as it was smack bang in the middle of the city area & close the esplanade. All we needed was a bed with a fairly easy walk to the Cruise ship terminal the next day. There were 3 of us, each with a decent single bed. The room was very basic, however it was spacious (.....huge, actually) and very clean.
Our flight in was early, well ahead of check in time; the hotel does not have a luggage room although it does have some coin operated luggage lockers. When we did get to check in, the one and only lift couldn't be used for a few hours as they were doing non-essential maintenance (a bit of spray can painting on the kick boards) and there was no alternative to get heavy luggage up the stairs to the room.
The pool is tucked away in an uninviting area with car parks/service access, air con plants etc; but it is a pool and it was clean.
Wifi was non existent. The hotel advertised free wifi, but they didn't actually have any (although they were in the process of installing their own system). The only available wifi is the fee council run wifi if you go out to the verandas where you could get a signal.
The Irish pub on street level (Shields St side); I'm not sure if the pub is a part of Hides Hotel or a separate business. It's a good pub with plenty of atmosphere and good pub food. The "heritage" section of hotel rooms above the pub area would surely be noisy, although our room was at the back in another wing and was very quiet.
Complimentary brekky (cereals/ toast /boiled eggs/ juice / instant coffee & teabags) was basic but perfectly fine. Brekky out on the verandah was nice start to the day. The streetscape in the mall area around the hotel is nicely done.

Needed some quick and easy and the hide ticked all the boxes. It was easy it was quick and the breakfast was on point. I would recommend it to anyone on a budget looking for somewhere convenient.also it is located close to the beach and to the nightlife.

Why a VG rating for a hotel?, this ticked all the boxes for us as a short stay, Location CBD, atmosphere,clean,great little brekky the first floor verandah to sit outside, we stayed on the second floor with a shared bathroom everything was clean ,Room-Flat screen TV ,tea/coffee making facilities, mini-fridge,wash basin and Air con.You can smoke on the first floor on the verandah/balcony. Would not suit young families however kids 13 and older would enjoy the area It has night life that goes until 0500 however it did not bother us.Check out their web site as it is very popular pub In reference to being a bit dated this is a 100 year old pub that is great for atmosphere we loved the old look, step back in time and enjoy Hides if you like old pubs.
