Pleasant stay!
Bethan Eon 20/11/2017 13:37Our one night stay at High Grassings was very enjoyable. We felt welcomed by the owners. The setting was picturesque and peaceful. The room was clean and tidy with appropriate facilities. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice.
Amazing weekend away
placeimogenon 13/11/2017 13:22When me and my boyfriend arrived, we were greeted by the owner. He advised and gave us directions for places to eat at since when we arrived it was dark. The bedroom was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, we stayed for two nights, the first morning I had the pancakes and the second morning I had an omelette, both of which were good. The owner also kindly advised us on a great place to walk, which was Tarn Hows, and me and my boyfriend have now found our favorite place! It is 10 minutes away from the house and the views are spectacular! it is well worth a visit.Overall, we had an amazing stay at High Grassings Country House and we are wanting to return next year.
Pleasant B&B, lovely location
monmouth_11on 07/11/2017 22:04We have stayed in over 50 B&Bs in the UK over the past 10 years, and so feel we have established a good benchmark of what is excellent, good or average. We felt that this B&B could only be classed as average, when compared with others, and outline some of our reasoning below:
• Our standard double room was very small indeed, with no space to pass each other on 2 sides of the bed. The sink in the room made it seem even smaller and the toilet/shower “room” was tiny. Tea/coffee making facilities were consigned to a cupboard, and there was very limited space to use these, on the surface next to the sink. There are no chairs in the room, as there is no space. I know this room is cheaper than some of the others, but was still £85 a night and represented poor value for money. There were no biscuits on offer in the room – the only time we have ever encountered this. Often, we have been given home-made biscuits, or cake, at country B&Bs. The wall to the adjoining room was such that we could have joined in the other guests’ conversation if we had wanted to. We were pleased that they did not use their TV!
• The breakfast was disappointing. Cereals on offer did not include muesli (again, always on offer elsewhere); the jams etc were in commercially produced individual containers (definitely no home-made jams on offer, which one often finds in B&Bs, or, at least, a “posh” retail brand with some flavour); the American-style pancakes were standard supermarket scotch pancakes, warmed, rather than freshly made pancakes. Everywhere else I have had pancakes for breakfast – in Canada, America and even Yorkshire, they have been freshly made; there were no yoghurts or prepared fresh fruits/berries to liven up the cereals. The “full English” breakfast was fine, with good sausages and bacon; toast was tasteless sliced white/brown bread.
• We did not like being asked, at breakfast, whether we wanted our room serviced. I would assume that this is part of what you pay for in accommodation, and have never been asked this anywhere else. Nor were we keen to choose the following day’s breakfast when we had only just finished eating the current one. Perhaps it would be better to provide a form for guests to hand in during the evening.
On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, the bed-linen good quality and the room clean. We had a very friendly welcome from the host and were made a cup of tea on arrival. The living area space for guests, with a lovely stove, was very nice. The breakfast room is very pleasant, light and airy with views over the countryside. The location is great, with extensive views and good central access to wonderful places in the Lakes. However, having stayed in other accommodation in South Lakes, without the shortcomings described above, we would not choose to return here.
Back Again!
CoshievilleHouseon 07/11/2017 09:39Another wonderful stay at this superb country house. Everything is presented to a very high standard with all areas immaculately clean. Our welcome instantly made us feel at home - Thanks Dave, we will return!
Guests are an inconvenience
Pedalpoweron 28/10/2017 07:46It's a strange one. From the outside looking in High Grassings appears picture post card. But buyer beware.
The sign on the door reads - cash only. No debit cards or credit cards. Which for a B&B seems a strange way to welcome guests. And it continued. Rules around breakfast. No flexibility for even a bacon roll before 8am. Paper thin walls. Lumpy pillows. It feels as if guests are an inconvenience.
We won't be back.
