Green oasis with a lot of potential, but refurbishment is necessary

Toko lodge is situated on a hill and offers great views. It has a nice green garden, where you can see a lot of birds. A great place for birdlovers! The rooms are spacious but old. The same goes for the restaurant area and the sunbeds near the pool. Furthermore, it is ridiculous that you have to pay 10 NAD to get the Wifi-code
Some refurbishment would do miracles here, because the place has a lot of potential.
The restaurant works with a fixed menu and we really enjoyed the food. We also appreciated the friendliness of the staff. They even washed our car before we left.

We booked the safari and they let the people who didn't book go while they knew they didn't book. They just accepted cash money while we had already paid. They didn't help us at all. Terrible night terrible service. Don't go!!!
An oasis in a tropical garden

The lodge is located in a nice tropical garden full of flowers and beautiful birds. The rooms are nice, spacious and clean. The food was OK. What makes worth our stay was the possibility to visit the Himba Village just near the lodge. That was a very nice experience but there was a misunderstanding with the ownerr of the lodge. We went on our own to the village and that is not allowed so we came back and returned with a guide from the lodge. It is said that the Himba peopla earn some income from the visits but we are not sure about that and we had not a good feeling. Visits have to be paid in the lodge so we have our doubts about this fact. On the morning of our departure we had another strange feeling because the woman looks to us a little suspious when we came from breakfast. Immediately she asked our key and we had to pay but our luggage was still in our room. It seemed us that she didn't trust us and thought we're gonna leave without pay. Come on ...!
Nice campsite

I stayed two nights at the campsite at toko lodge. The campsite is really good, beautifully located, though the road leading to the campsite is very bad in one spot and going there in a sedan car was tricky. The toilets facilities are shared, but clean, hot water is available. Each campsite has a braai, a place for a camp fire, a roofed table and benches. Bird life is abundant. We also booked two activities at Toko Lodge and were very disappointed by one of them, mainly night safari. It was one of the reasons for choosing this place to stay, however, we practically saw one animal only and I had a feeling that the whole thing is rather carelessly done. I mean, I do understand that there are no guarantees and animals might just not be there, but at times people who we were in the car with were calling to the guide to stop the car because they spotted something and he completely ignored them. He used the search light in quite a careless way too, in comparison to other guides we went onn night safaris with in other places. It would also be great if there were any blankets in the car as it was freezing cold (we went on different guided drives in other places in Namibia and blankets were usually provided, even for day drives).
The second trip was the Himba village trip and it was good. The guide was excellent, he tried to translate everything and explained all the details we asked about.
A strange place with a melancholy atmosphere

Rooms are large, clean and well maintained. And the hotel itself sits in an amazing location and a beautiful building. But the team looked very sad and depressed. The service was basic and without a smile. The whole place was very dark. Both the rooms and the dining room. It was impossible to see what you were eating. Maybe better because the food was really not tasty.
