What People are saying

Hospitable heroes

Kelly B on 18/11/2017 09:54

Our family of five- consisting of our four year old son and four month old twins- came to stay at The Crowne Plaza, Basingstoke during October half term as part of a two day trip to LegoLand.

We arrived at the hotel after 8pm after a tiring day at the attraction and were immediately greeted by smiles and offers of help. Two members of staff escorted us to our room, helping us to carry cases, our steriliser, other baby paraphernalia and the babies themselves! This was much appreciated. We are more accustomed to lugging our extensive luggage around by ourselves! And getting hot, sweaty and slightly stressed! To not have to endure this was a bonus!

The room was very clean and well equipped. Wifi was free and the bathroom housed a selection of complimentary toiletries. The hotel prides itself on providing a good night's sleep and didn't disappoint. The bed was super comfortable and the addition of a calming lavender pillow spray was a nice touch. I only wish I could have used it on the babies' bedding!

Our son had missed dinner so we ordered room service. This was delivered quickly and was a novel experience for him. At £5, this seemed very reasonable for a pizza and chips.

Breakfast was a calm experience; which is particularly significant given our family dynamic. A buffet breakfast incorporated all that you could want: continental cheeses and meats, pastries, a cooked selection and- to the delight of our four year old- pancakes! Fruit, juices, fizzy and still water were also available and copious amounts of tea, coffee etc. We were sensitively seated close to the food, better enabling us to juggle the two babies and shuttles for said food items. But- even more considerate than this... the offers (yes, plural!) of help from the dining staff. Many of them took turns cradling our babies so that we could eat our breakfast in a leisurely fashion.

A particular mention must go to Dorian. He was our saviour on both mornings and completely went above and beyond. Not only did he cradle the babies, but fed them too!!! He told us that he wanted us to enjoy our breakfast and relax. And, for the first time in four months, we were able to! This was so very appreciated and is the kind of hospitality that makes the hotel stand out from its competitors.

Arriving on evening 2, we were again greeted warmly and, our son, by name. We ate in the bar and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Kids eat for free when adult meals are ordered so, again, dining was inexpensive. Our son was also given complimentary drinks and he enjoyed the novelty of being able to order these.

The staff made an effort with our eldest and engaged him in chat about his day. They allowed him repeat helpings of the complimentary Halloween chocolates and answered his many questions.

We enjoyed another decent night in the room and had a good, hearty breakfast. The staff were exceptional in making things easier for us and we're great to chat to. They seemed genuinely bothered about our plans for the day ahead and assembled together to say goodbye.

Overall our experience at The Crowne Plaza was an enjoyable and relaxing one. The furnishings, accessories and environment were of a high standard and made us feel very comfortable. However, it was the consideration and commitment of the staff that made our stay so special and to these 'hospitable heroes' we are truly thankful.

Afternoon tea

itismehdr on 17/11/2017 19:29

Just had an excellent afternoon tea at the hotel through Groupon. When we booked we were asked if there were any special dietary requirements required. We were thrilled to see that everything was as we had asked. Lovely selection of finger sandwiches, cakes, scones and trifle. Unlimited coffee and tea included.
Lovely table in the conservatory overlooking the garden. Staff are extremely courteous and helpful and special mention to our waitress Corinne. As we knew hotel from Hilton days I have to say that the recent refurbishment looks very smart and modern. We shall be back for sure.

We love to see who can speaking my language even not only english !! I will recommend to this hotel to my friend too. We want to say thanks to that girl "Minnie" from the other part of asia :) she was really kind and has a beautiful smile. we had a good dinner and good memory in Crowne plaza. Crowne Plaza?

Not quite at the usual Crowne Plaza standard but good nonetheless. Decent Leisure and pool facilities and reasonable if slightly overpriced bar food and drinks choice. Excellent breakfast and convenient location.
