Holiday Inn Basingstoke
For the purpose of my review bias, for the last 13 years I have stayed approximately 70-100 nights a year in the Intercontinental / Holiday Inn Group chain.
Date of stay 19th November 2017, my last review Sept 16
My ongoing experience of the hotel is as follows:
1) Arrival was straightforward using the Sat Nav (TOM TOM) instructions
2) On arrival at the hotel the check in clerk Michelle was pleasant and friendly. As a rewards club member, I received access to the free WIFI and choice of a rewards voucher or alternatively if you wish you may choose the option of a free drink at the bar instead.
3) As rewards club member I was upgraded to an exec room, for which I thank the hotel manager Diane here for.
4) All area’s including the bedrooms were always well kept, tidy and clean. My praise goes once again to Jackie in Housekeeping
5) My room 202 was clean and well maintained, but typically smaller than other Holiday Inn rooms.
6) There is a large free car park, which surrounds the hotel
7) Breakfast is an additional cost (cheaper if booked in advance or breakfast voucher purchased at check in) The quality of the breakfast was good for a Holiday Inn; catering from the full English option to fresh fruit salad and yoghurts, sliced cold cuts and cheese & pastries, with fresh artisan bread available, along with freshly cooked items to order, such as poached eggs. Many thanks to the Head Chef and to the lovely Mary who brightens any breakfast room.
8) I didn’t use the evening meal service on this occasion
8) Location, was ideally located for my visit.
9) Check out, was straight forward and hassle free with the new trainee clerk Emma.
In summary the hotel scores 8.5/10 for a good Holiday Inn Express branded hotel that has smaller than average bedrooms to others in the group.

I have been meaning to write a review but been a little busy, over the years I have had some long stays at this hotel and it never disappoints, I am currently on another long stay and once again perfectly happy, I agree with a previous poster it was lovely to see Mary once again lighting up breakfast with her smile, along with the rest of the team she makes breakfast a happy occasion. Also a special mention to Sarah on reception, Jackie from housekeeping, Eloise and Michelle, really nice to see that they were still there and giving myself and my wife a lovely welcome reception. On such a long stay away from home a nice family atmosphere really helps. Keep up the good work.. Apologies if I have forgotten anyone!

It is many years since I last stayed here but service is still of a high level. The room was clean but I had forgotten how small they are compared with many others. It was a delight to see Mary still there at breakfast with a smile on her face and happy to help after not hearing her delig9accent for some years. Hopefully I will be back sooner next time round..

Check in was good although omitted some basic info especially the fact that all the phones were out of order. Room basic but functional. Tried to order room service, unable to call as above the phone not working. Tried to call reception on my mobile and left waiting listening to music. After a while walked to reception to be told about the phones and to order at the bar.
Told food would be 25 mins, eventually arrived in about 50 mins. Apology given and lack of staff was the excuse.
Soup was spilled into to saucer with bread and butter soaked in cold soup. Main course just like cheap pub food but at a price of quality food.
Two bottles of lager and a filthy glass well overdue a polish.
All in all could do a lot better, I will be speaking to reception on check out and won’t be paying the extortionate cost of the food.

Arrived late and check in marginally slow but adequate, room was executive in name but not really in reality, however adequate, clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good so no complaints here. Unremarkakable hotel but safe choice to book.
