Mr buckle

This review is nothing to do with the gym facilities, but it is based on the blunt, eager to get commission staff which work at the complex and the customer service i have recieved from the staff at the gym.

I went into the gym a number of months ago stating that i was thinking about signing up. At this point i was told it would be £10 for the day and this would be taken from my membership fee (if i was to sign up) which i found understandable. At the end of my session i enjoyed the facilities and was considering a membership. I mentioned that i could not afford a membership at the time due to more important outgoings, but when i could afford i would come back to set up payment and a membership.

At this point a young member of staff said to me 'why don't you fill in all the forms to sign up and then the next time you come in the form will be filled in and you can start straight a membership' (which i thought was a good idea at the time) but i have later discoverd it wasnt as i haven't been back to the gym, due to financial difficulties.

After a phone call two months later, i found out they have been taking money the whole time out of my bank account without my consent. I was fuming by this and think i deserve my money back. So therefore be aware and careful if signing up to this gym in future.

Very welcome

The staff was so welcoming and friendly. We have been to a few Holiday Inn hotels and this, by far, was the best we have stayed at yet. We thought we would order room service and again they was so helpful and friendly. The food was very good. The facilities on site are brilliant with the bar, pool and health centre. There is plenty of car parking too. There was a wedding on when we stayed and even though you could here it from our room, surprisingly, it was that loud you could easily ignore it. My only disappointment was the shower. Whilst in the shower you had it to the correct heat and then BOOM it was super hot that you had to run out. Nothing major and noted with reception on check out. Would definitely recommend.

1 night stay

The location of this hotel is good, with quick links to the M62 although not so close you can here it.

The lay out is slightly strange with the rooms at 1 end of the hotel with the bar and restaurant at the other.

It has a gym and pool, although I did not use them so can comment.

Staff were pleasant and helpful although at meal time a number of them tried pushing us to order the special. It turns out there was a bonus for the member of staff who sold the most, which seems strange. Targets like these drive a certain behaviour which can be off putting.

For me the price of the food is the biggest drawback here. When you are on a budget it can be hard to choose something on the menu which comes in under this. The quality is good but not excellent and it let's down the visit. As an example a bowl of curry with rice was over £15 which if I order one from the local curry house I know it would not be that cost.

On the plus side, breakfast was good. Lots of choice on offer including a good fruit bowl.

Surpise Upgrade

Well presented chain hotel, with friendly staff.

A guest of the day upgrade was provided which was a very pleasant surprise as were the two free drinks that went with the upgrade.

A pity that the upgraded room had a faulty wardrobe door and a shower that didn't drain and flooded the bathroom every time it was used.

An enjoyable stay, but a few niggles

Souwester147 on 30/10/2017 23:04

I've stayed at a few HIs and even more HIEs. This particular one was of a more unusual design which makes it stand out from many of the others which have little individuality. The stay was comfortable and enjoyable, but there were a few little niggles.

First the pros:

- powerful shower with easy controls
- overhead main light in room (good for someone withy poor eyesight)
- plug socket close to bed!
- a decent hot buffet style breakfast
- friendly helpful staff

The niggles:

- the hotel rooms are on ground and first floor but there is no lift.
- there are function rooms which have to be walked past to get to the bedrooms, meaning a hefty hike!
- the car park is on several levels with steep steps from hotel reception, not good with heavy luggage)
(none of these is good when you're hobbling with gout!)
- the restaurant was reasonably busy at breakfast but a lot of vacant tables had dirty plates etc
- drinks (after 11pm ish) I was told could only be charged to the room and not paid for in cash
