I was worried that a hotel in the north of town would be run down and/or in a depressing area, but the opposite is true. The area is nice, walkable and the hotel is amazing, yet not expensive. Next door is an impressive Carrefour which is more like a bazaar, and a (kind of) Apple Store and many other local businesses. The Panda research station/park is very close and worth visiting. Everything worked perfectly. The staff was very helpful, especially Daniel, who arranged a difficult trip for us to Bailu, the French town, and kept checking on us to make sure everything was working out. We wish we could have stayed longer.
