What I Did Not Expect

We stayed at Country Inns and Suites last evening in Abingdo,VA on the last leg of a long road trip. Bottom line this is an excellent hotel excelling in cleanliness, very comfortable beds and bedding. Good working tv and wifi, friendly and helpful staff and the best of complimentary morning breakfast. The one thing I did not expect was the facility was totally renovating the lobby and breakfast eating area. When I signed in the dust was burning my nose as they were cleaning up for the weekend. My husband has a bronchial problem and I was fearful the dust would trigger an attack. The management could not have been nicer to us realizing our situation. Our room was out of the renovation area. We should have been told before booking. My fault I should have asked about renovation before making reservations. My advice if anyone in your party has a breathing problem always ask before booking. Things turned out fine and I hope to stay here again when the renovations are completed.
Comfortable, convenient

We enjoyed a 3 night stay and were very comfortable. Bed was comfortable, room was clean, location was convenient to Hwy 81. It's also a good location for riding the Creeper Trail in Damascus, VA (rails-to-trails bike path) and the wonderful Barter Theatre in downtown Abingdon. Breakfast was delicious and dining room well stocked. The ladies were very friendly and helpful in guiding us to things to do around Abingdon on our free day. The lobby and dining room are being renovated and entire hotel will be done including adding a fitness room. This did not inconvenience us in any way. Desk employees were pleasant. We will stay here again on our next trip to Abingdon. Rooms, service and location all a "5".

Thanks so much for making our stay so nice. Ike was a wonderful front desk host. Bonnie and Kris took care of our room which was extremely clean and restocked each day. Loved the Keurig coffee maker. Jane and Vivian provided breakfast in the cafe area the two mornings we were here. What a great staff. One of the friendliest places we have ever stayed.
Chain hotel on the interstate -- but still great!

As Charles Kuralt so accurately stated, the U.S. interstate highway system has allowed us “to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything.” Its exits also allow us to spend our money at places that focus on efficiency and value instead of warmth or charm. Exit 19 in the Virginia part of Interstate Highway 81 is no exception, as it has, in addition to a Walmart, several motels & restaurants with a lot of amenities at good prices. The Country Inns & Suites at this interstate exit is just another place that is useful for those seeking value.
Our king-size room had LOTS of open space, AC, phone, microwave, fridge, radio-alarm, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron & board, and TV with 59 channels. Because it was “King Executive” Room, there was no tub, only a large shower. It was clean, quiet, and well-maintained. The only “problem” with the wifi we had was the fact that they change the password on Sunday mornings. Staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Free amenities include parking, wifi, pool (Memorial Day to Labor Day), adjacent fitness center, and a large, hot breakfast buffet. In the lobby you’ll find free morning newspapers, a computer with printer, and a lending library. Coffee, tea, cookies, and fruits are available there at all hours. There are innumerable restaurant options close by, including a 24-hour diner adjacent to the motel.
We found the Abingdon area a charming place to spend a weekend, with lots of places to shop and enjoy the outdoors. If you need a place to get away, either to relax or focus, then this place would be hard to beat.
Good Night's Haven

Stopped here after travelling a good distance. Accommodations were comfortable, clean and convenient for our continuation of travel. The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was filling and tasty. Egg omelets just like home. We did not realize that this was a pet friendly hotel until we were at the front desk. Although we love pets, we just don't want to be in a room next to a barking dog. But no problem, we were given a room on the third floor, which floor is out of bounds to pets. Great compromise. Would definitely stop again.
