We were just unlucky!
aliasclinton 11/11/2017 15:20Amiens is not a place which I think I would want to visit often and is one where I have never been before but I was en route from Calais to Nice and it was a reasonable night stop location. Being an IHG member I tend to look for the IHG hotels.
This hotel is in the middle of town and really it is in a rather difficult place to access - you need to keep your wits about you because of the mad drivers and the day we went there were road works blocking off routes all over the city. It was mayhem.
Anyway the hotel itself does have its own parking, again quite difficult to access. It is a typical Holiday Inn Express. I felt the young man who booked me in was rather surly - indeed I found that no one in this city seemed able to crack a smile.
We really drew the short straw because we were put on the fourth floor along with a school group of sorts - sad to say from England. We probably had the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel. The youngsters were drinking in the corridor; smoking on ther balcony and they had notes on their doors suggesting that "visitors were welcome". It was like a brothel. We went to bed circa 10 pm and they continued to "party" and bang around all night. At 3 am enough was enough. We had people actually banging on our door. We called reception. They already seemed to be aware of the problem but happily the noise stopped shortly after - that is until about 5 am when it started again and people once again started banging on doors, including ours. I cannot deny that it was actually intimidating.
When we came out for breakfast a man was there who turned out to be the deputy manager and I told him what a terrible time we had had. He was clearly pretty unhappy too and said that they had cases of beer in their rooms and were just causing trouble all the time.
At breakfast their teachers were there and we made it clear what we thought.
When we left we were quite gratified to be told that there would be no charge as compensation for the bad time we had had. Top marks to the deputy manager for this - we were going to ask for compensation but he beat us to it. I don't knock any marks off for their behaviour as they did their best to put it right but I think they could have thrown these people out.
I must apologise to the hotel for the fact that it was a British group which was responsibled for this appalling behaviour. It made me ashamed to feel they were of the same nationality as us. A load of teenage louts who frankly should not be allowed out on the street.
As regards the other aspects of the hotel, the breakfast was okay - I have had better but at least I could boil my own eggs which I liked doing.
I can't say I have fond memories of this city.

Very convenient, right next to the station, underground parking a 3 minute walk away (7E for 24 hours) , across from all the shops, only a short walk to the Cathedral and lots of restaurants, cafe's. The hotel has a Continental breakfast which was ample, is very clean and had an extremely comfortable bed. It's also of course well situated for the Somme...
Basecamp
Fulhamloverson 17/10/2017 09:02We were visiting the Somme battle fields and museums and this made a good base, right in the centre of Amiens, a large town with good eateries and attractions. Quite noisy with doors slamming during the night, but that was down to the guests. Very clean and comfortable with good bathroom. Great for a couple of nights stay but any longer and it would have become too small

lrobertonon 09/10/2017 11:26Right in the centre of Amiens, so it great as basecamp for us visit 1st world war cemetaries and museums. Very clean and comfortable with great shower. Noisy at night but that was down to guests not being able to close a door quietly! Friendly and welcoming staff.
Comfortable bed. Good for the budget.
Robbnion 02/10/2017 19:25Located next to the main rail station (but no train noise) and within 10 minutes walk of cathedral and Quai Leu. Relatively basic but comfortable. Very good breakfast included. We didn't find the receptionist when we arrived terribly helpful but others were good. Can't really argue with this for the price.
