I visited this hotel a few times in 2017. Desk staff is wonderful but rooms are old and could use updating. The rooms are extremely loud. The walls were so thin I could hear all of my neighbors tv shows and phone conversations most of the evening.

My wife and I are IHG members and stay at many different Holiday Inn Express hotels. We've found most to be in very good shape and offer good service. Not this one. The room, while large, suffered from peeling wall paper in the bathroom and grimy grout. For breakfast, all other HIE's make sure the hot food is well stocked. Not this one. They ran out of eggs and sausages and had none heated up to replace them. We waited a long time (10 min?) for the new batch of eggs and sausages to come out. Someone was asleep or not paying attention to the breakfast bar. We made coffee in the room, and used the ice bucket the night before. Housekeeping left the half-full coffee cups, and did not empty the ice bucket or replace the plastic liner so I could get more ice. Overall it is a poorly managed and poorly maintained hotel.

Reliable and comfortable hotel near I-40. When we stayed recently, though, the third floor was being renovated (very loudly) right above us. One of the female desk clerks was rude and unhelpful to us when we checked out.

Chose this hotel to be close to Chapel Hill Hospital for daughter's medical treatment the following day.
When we arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk was very nice. However, the room that was given to us was smelly and carpet was dingy, gummy and dirty.
When I asked for another room, I was down sized (from king room to queen room) on the 4th floor. That room and floor was too hot and also smelled. The carpets need replacing and the rooms need to be updated.
Not worth the money charged.

We stayed at HIE on our way to Hilton Head, we wanted to visit UNC. The front desk personnel were fantastic, helpful and friendly. Our room was nice and quiet, clean and had plenty of room and free WiFi. They would have received a 5, however, we had no shower curtain in our room and I had to go to the desk to ask them to hang one up. The pool is next door in the other hotel
