What People are saying

Milano city break

Location is easy to find and quite. Parking is OK and free of charge. Bathroom is large and nice.

Poor breakfast and bad coffee. Rooms are no so nice as expected in a 4* hotel. The bunk beds for children looks unsafe and the blankets old and anesthetic.

Good hotel

Great location, great hotel, great service. The hotel was clean and the room in a very good condition. Shower was also spacious. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. The staff was very professional. I shall be back soon

Rooms are comfortable, most are quiet.

Breakfast is ok - typical continental.
Bar is small and expensive, though free snacks at 'Happy Hour'

Mini gym is too small and hot, though better than nothing.

Staff very friendly and helpful, bi-lingual

Very Average

I spent 2 nights here earlier this week. There's an underground car park with plenty of space and it's free which is always handy.
Check in was quick though not particularly welcoming. Our 1st floor room was spacious, with a large desk area and plenty of storage space, a decent TV with several English speaking channels- although watching Doc Martin in Italian on one of the local channels was entertainment enough in itself- and tea/coffee facilities (although these weren't restocked so had to keep asking reception for more coffee). The bed was comfortable and it was all very clean. The ensuite was equally clean, with a good shower and plenty of towels and toiletries.
So the room itself was very good, however the rest of the hotel let's it down somewhat- the bar is the smallest hotel bar I've ever seen- to get served you have to get a receptionist to phone someone to come down to serve you which takes rather a while, it was also very overpriced and the pizzas they serve are very poor. Breakfast was a mixed bag- the food selection was good but the drinks were awful, all the coffees were just coloured water and the juices were awful. Also all the staff were rather unfriendly, with the exception of one lady on reception in the evenings who was lovely.
Then comes the issue of the location- the surrounding area is not particularly nice and there is little to do (there's a Café called Share a few minutes walk away which is great but that's it). On the plus side it's got great road connections- 20 minutes from Linate and about 50 from Malpensa, and is right by the A4 road. If you want to go into Milan on public transport you walk to a bus stop (5mins or so) then have to catch a bus to a metro station and get a metro in. Alternatively you can get a bus the other way to Monza station which has connections into Milan, Como, Zurich and many other places- however if you value your life you would not want to go to Monza station, it seems to have become a migrant camp and is rather unnerving.
So I can't say I'd return out of choice- the rooms are great and if you just want to sleep and continue your journey this hotel would be ideal, but if youre wanting to visit Milan or have time to kill while you're at the hotel I wouldn't recommend it.

Think carefully

After finding cheap flights to Milan, we were having big problems finding a hotel that was (a) anywhere near 'cheap', and (b) anywhere near Milan.

The Holiday Inn was slightly more expensive than some of the other hotels, but with good reviews and a good reputation, we thought we'd pay the extra and stay there. With the benefit of hindsight (and the information I'll give you now) this could have been a great stay, but there are a couple of things to note before booking.

The good.

Nice hotel, excellent staff, very clean.

The bad.

Here we go.

The location is bad. Now, we'd planned for this, and if you've got a car, it won't be an issue. Really. Free parking. If you don't have a car, you'll have read about the local train station... and this is where things get fun.

When we arrived at the local station there wasn't a taxi in sight, and no obvious way of obtaining one. Without knowing Italian to call a local company (or a number), you'll be stuck. Even the local bus drivers didn't know where the hotel was and we ended up walking the 2km there. The hotel did say when we arrived that if we'd called them they could have organised it, but hindisight's wonderful.

The next issue was getting anywhere. 2km to the station isn't a long journey. We'd expected to taxi it most days for a few Euros, but if this is your first trip to Italy WOW are you in for a surprise. Italian taxis start the meter from when the booking is made, regardless of where they are. The first two taxis had 10 Euros already on the meter making it a 17 Euro trip, and this became a frequent problem no matter where we went in Milan. The hotel does have a driver that will do the trip for 10 Euros, but this is subject to availablility... and it's a busy hotel. If you haven't got a car be prepared to spend a LOT of money on taxis.

There was no bath in the room, strange for a 4*, but not unheard of and didn't worry us. What was irritating was that there was no shower door/curtain, and the base of the shower was level with the bathroom floor meaning that every time we had a shower the floor flooded. It was a bad design and we went through a lot of towels.

The 'free' computers in reception. The first day one worked, the second two days neither worked. We had WiFi notebooks, and this would have been a problem printing tickets that we'd bought although the fantastic staff, (and they really are) did it for us on their computer. Don't rely on these computers being available.

The breakfast was basic, but a selection of standard continental food. Flies constantly buzzed around the fruit and we wondered why they hadn't covered it, but it was edible.

In summary, it was a reasonable stay. Had we known about the taxi/station situation before booking we'd probably have spent an extra 100 Euros on a more central hotel as the taxi bills really racked up quickly, but if you have a car it's a nice place to stay.
