I stayed here for a long weekend vacation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I found there were usually multiple people on duty in different areas that spoke English pretty well and some very well. Communications were not a problem.

I had an upgraded room on a high floor and can't comment on the regular rooms. My room was very nice - much better than what I think of as a "typical Holiday Inn room." The TV was a new HD TV. However, it had only a few channels available in English. CNN and BBC were there along with a few others. They did have KBS from Korea with English subtitles.

The hotel was very conveniently located as other reviews mentioned. Having the supermarket and a small connected shopping area next door was great. In addition to the fun of exploring a Chinese supermarket it was very convenient to pick up some breakfast pasteries to eat on the go each morning and I even had a quick lunch at one of the food stall-type restaurants in the connected shopping area one day. (That was one of my favorite meals.)

I like to see a new city walking as much as I can. The hotel was easy walking distance to the ocean and all the sightseeing areas along the water. There is actually a boardwalk area that runs for many miles along the ocean and I found that was an excellent way to see a lot of the sights from the Olympic Sailing Center all the way to the Grand Pier. It was a nice one way walk and I took a taxi back.

The hotel arranged taxis when I needed them. One note: there are regular taxis and premium taxis. The premium ones are all black I think and the regular ones are different colors. The premium ones are more expensive and in my view no better in terms of getting you to your destination. If you are a foreigner and ask for a taxi the hotel folks only seem to call premium cabs. If you don't want a premium cab then specify that to the hotel staff or hail one yourself on a main street.

If you are taking a taxi at the hotel the staff will tell the driver your destination. The staff wrote down in Chinese other destinations that I wanted to visit when I was not returning to the hotel first, so that I could hand it to the taxi driver to tell him where I wanted to go. I was also given a map card from the hotel showing the hotel location with Chinese characters to give to cab drivers when I wanted to return to the hotel.

I found that taxi drivers did not know the hotel. Before you leave the airport have something printed showing the hotel name and address in Chinese to give to your taxi driver. That will ease getting to the hotel from the airport. In a premium taxi the cost from airport to hotel will be about 140 RMB. Have cash.

One thing I would have liked at the hotel was a good tourist map. The hotel didn't have one - just a small one showing the area right around the hotel. I didn't really have a good idea of where places were in relation to eachother and the hotel, distances, etc. A real map of the city would have been a help.

Overall I thought the hotel was a very good choice.

Decent hotel in a good location approx. 20 minutes walking from "Marina". Rooms are clean and comfortable, bottled water always available. Mini bar You can fill in on request, free coffe/tea in the room. Really good breakfast botch chinese as well as continental style. Small grocery downsairs but prices 2-3 times higher than in e.g. Carrefour located 200 m from the hotel (but this is pretty common for all the small shops in the hotel). The only disadvantage for me was smell on the corridor close to elevator where smoking was allowed and lot of guests use it. All in all reccomend this hotel both for business as well as private stay.

The city of Qingdao is a bit far from the Liuting Airport, roughly a 40-minute journey. Arriving at the airport after midnight, by the time the taxi reached the hotel is was after 1am. However, no problems with checking-in at that time of the night, and we were soon up in our room at the 17th floor. Most of the staff we encountered during our stay could communicate in simple english.

The room was basically what one would expect of the Holiday Inn brand. Comfortable king sized bed, flat screen TV with cable channels, kettle, hair dryer, in-room safe, refrigerator, kettle and even ironing board and iron. Plenty of international switch-sockets, so no problems charging your electrical gadgets if you forget your travel adaptor.

The bathroom was one of those with a glass panel to the bedroom, so something to take note of if you are traveling as a family with kids. Didn’t bother us, and in any case you could always lower the roller blind if necessary. The shower was also not a separate cubicle but located inside the long bath. Again, not an issue for us.

All in all, the room was comfortable and did the business. The only real issue we faced was that the central air-conditioning was not really effective in cooling the room; however when we commented on this to reception the next day, a portable air cooler was sent to the room, which was a quick recovery on the hotels part.

Free wi-fi was also provided and could be used throughout the whole hotel premises, which was a big plus. Connection was generally good, although at certain times, it did become slower, perhaps due to congestion? On the whole though, the free wi-fi was most welcome.

In terms of facilities, the hotel does have a small swimming pool and gymnasium on the 5th floor, although we did not avail ourselves of these facilities. On the ground floor is the restaurant as well as the lobby lounge where you can have coffee or drinks. There is also a small convenience store where you can buy snacks or drinks to take up to your room.

We did have the buffet dinner at the restaurant one night and it came with a hotpot meal. The buffet is also clearly marked as to what ingredients are in a particular dish, which might be useful for those with special dietary needs.

As we did not have breakfast in our package, we took our coffee at a pastry shop at the corner of the hotel on the outside called the Café Inn. Evidently it is part of the hotel and you can charge the purchase to your room. Quite pleasant to sit outside in the nice spring weather with a cappuccino and pastry.

The location of the hotel is pretty central for the new part of town. Located on a side street called Xuzhou Road, just off the main thoroughfare of Xianggang Middle Road, there is a Carrefour supermarket right next door. Opposite the hotel is a simple restaurant located on the ground floor of an apartment complex serving simple chinese muslim food. In fact the whole Xuzhou road consists of residential apartments, so you are in a quieter environment although right in the thick of things.

From the hotel it is perhaps a 15 minute walk to the May 4th square and from there onto the waterfront of the Olympic Sailing Centre; 12 minutes to the Wusi Guangchang metro station and a further 3 minutes walk to the huge and high-end MixC mall from the metro station. 2 blocks in the other direction from the hotel is the Yunxiao food street with its seafood restaurants.

All in all, the hotel is a good competent 4 star business hotel and should be among your shortlist when you visit Qingdao.

My colleagues and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Beautiful and welcoming lobby, comfortable beds, great staff, busy area but at the same time quiet rooms and easy access to sight seeing and shopping areas. The breakfast buffet is the usual Holiday Inn type which I love. So glad I chose this hotel.

A shout out to Riki at reception and the concierge staff for all the help and tips on sight seeing and places to hang out.

clean, spacious, polite staff

The hotel is close to the French supermarket, Carrefour, a-5-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, however 20 minute walk from a metro station.
The room is spacious, and clean. There was only one bath towel for 2 persons .Staff in a restaurant is polite and kind.
It can't be helped that the staff do not know sightseeing places deeply as we asked.
