Stayed here en route to Manchester Airport, good location about 15 mins drive, the rooms was clean enough and the bed comfortable but the place lacks any kind of personality and could easily be a better hotel with a little effort.

TV didn’t work, asked for help all we got was a chef who provided minimal assistance; no one came after that even though we were told more help would be on the way. Over all everything else was mediocre.

The TV in my room did not work. I phoned the front desk who apologised, said they knew about the issue and switched me to another room on the same floor. I got a free drink voucher in compensation.
Only ale on tap was Boddingtons. The last bottled porter ale in the bar was totally flat (probably past its sell-by date). There were 2 other Lancaster Brewery bottled ales (in the fridge, but was able to get a room temperature one on request).
Menu is limited and expensive for what it is.
Try the food in the Juniper Farm pub a 10 min walk away on the other side of the motorway. Much better menu and pricing

I stayed here for 1 night for the second time this year on business...and will probably be the last I’m sorry to say. The hotel is OK, but doesn’t meet expectations which I have from staying at other HI’s in the UK. The bar area is pretty nice, but as it s situated in from the of the main doors, which have automatic sensors to open them, anyone walking by reception opens the doors. I stayed there on a very, very cold night and the icy winds kept blowing thought the bar. Also, due to a high demand that evening, the wait for food was close to an hour...wasn’t a problem for me as I had work to do, but others didn’t look so pleased. Cost of breakfast was high at almost £15...again at other HI’s I had been offered breakfast vouchers...not so here! As a Platinum Elite member with IHG there is now very little also, which were given free of charge previously (no bottled water in rooms, free snacks, etc). Final one, not even a fitness room in this hotel...would recommend converting one of the conference rooms or a couple of bedrooms to make way for a fitness room.

Stayed for 1 night as part of a Skills coach group undertaking Chester / Liverpool weekend.
Very comfortable rooms with decent bathroom. Looks as though hotel has just been refurbished.
All hotel staff we encountered were very nice and chatty with a smile on their faces.
Only complaint being the very high bar prices (£4.40 for pint of cider on draught).
Would certainly stay here again.
