Stop the negativity

I made reservations at the hotel when my family visited the Minnesota Renaissance Festival a month ago. Rates were by far the best in the area and the travel time between the festival and the hotel was reasonable (20 minutes). Reserved a room with two queen beds and a pull-out couch (have a 12 year old son and 15 year old daughter - separate beds are a plus!). The room had a sky light and was very spacious. I don't know about the size of the standard Queen rooms, but the extra $20 I paid for the pull-out couch was well worth it! I have to admit that after I reserved the room I went online and looked at the reviews and was tempted to cancel my reservation due to the negative feedback. I'm glad I didn't. I do agree that there is a distinct odor in the lobby, almost like well water. The room, however, did not smell like that and was very clean. The beds were comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub and my husband and I enjoyed sitting on the patio outside the pool. The restaurant next door was OK for supper and the apple orchard/store on the other side of the motel was fun to look through. Breakfast was fine. Kids made their waffles and the toast and muffins, cereal, and fruit were more than enough. If you want a huge breakfast, go out to a restaurant or make it yourself. I'm disappointed that people always have to find something negative to complain about. This motel is great for the price and convenience. It was an all around positive experience and we will stay there again if in the area.
Not so good..

We were in the area for a wedding. Like another reviewer wrote the person at the front desk that checked in was not the most personable person. When we walked in the front door the lobby smelled musty. The first floor hallway was the same way it stunk. Our room had a fridge and microwave sitting on top of fridge and that sat in front of the window plugged in with extension cords. The floor around the fridge and under the desk were dirty with crumbs and dust. One of the beds had (what I was told) a broken box spring, but it was a worn out mattress that sagged and squeaked. I complained at the front desk about the broken bed and did get a phone call the next day from a manager and she did give us a 25% discount on the room but...The pool area was very dark. Not a very good experience overall. Never again will we stay at this hotel.
OK stay, but some concerns

Some good, but mostly not so good. The person who checked us in wasn't exactly a beacon of friendliness, so the hotel's chance for a good first impression was lost. Room was ok but nothing fancy. Two things in the room that could easily be fixed: There were cobwebs in the corner by the bed and one of the electric sockets was pulled out from the wall and just hanging there. Our biggest complaint was the temperature of the hot tub (NOT hot), which is more of a health issue than it is about the comfort. The free breakfast was good; we all liked the waffles. I probably wouldn't stay here again but there aren't a lot of other choices in the immediate area. We did enjoy a trip to the local brewery and zip-lining in nearby Henderson.
Family Gathering approved!

This is the third (I think) year that we've stayed here for a family gathering weekend. Great for that purpose! Not fancy, but nice. Breakfast is continental with a waffle maker which the kids love! Coffee, Tea available all day.
Quaint Little Suites

We stayed here during attendance at a nearby wedding. Our suite was quaint and clean. It was summer, so we did not use the fireplace, but we had a great view out our window and during the winter months or snow - it would be a nice room having the view and fireplace. I do wish there were nightstands on both sides of the bed with lamps and plug-ins for phone or such. My husband and I both have c-paps and phones... and there was only one table and lamp in our room! I put the luggage rack and laid the ironing board on top of it to make a table! LOL!... but it worked! Light breakfast available inclusive in room charge and there is a pretty nice restaurant next to hotel. Decent place to stay.
