After see all the great reviews that this motel had on trip advisor, I booked this motel online for $79 and it was AAA rated--However, I did not feel safe there. The linens had a perfumey scent to them that was nauseating to me soo I was unable to sleep. The continental breakfast was one pot of coffee and small wrapped muffins--not even close to being continental. It is run by a couple from India that could hardly speak English--. I will say that it was clean--and the beds were comfortable but the smell --was NOT clean and fresh.-PLEASE CHANGE YOUR LAUNDRY SOAP!
Clean & Friendly Staff

We stayed at this Motel on July 1st for one night. It was very clean and the staff was wonderful. This motel gave me nostalgic feelings of my childhood vacationing with my family when I was a young child. You actually get a real key with the room number! I would like to counteract some of the bad reviews. The place does not smell and it was very easy turning on the air conditioner in the wall..... I am 5'5". Also the place was very easy to find. You can see the place while you are on 33 and very detailed instructions are on the building. I would definitely stay here again and I would definitely recommend it. Just minutes from downtown Athens and very easy commute.
Noisy road but very clean and of value

If headed west look carefully for entrance. Great access to Peden, but noise from the road may bother some. Manager doesn't speak English that well but you'll get by. I thought the motel was clean and provided good value.
Lots for the money

My reservation was messed up -- they had booked me for a whole week later than the date I arrived. The manager had received no confirmation; I had received none; the booking agency still wanted to charge me for a stay I wasn't going to make. The manager got on the phone and said his policy was to accept cancellations up to noon on the day of the scheduled stay and they should give me a complete refund. After much effort, the manager won.
He found me a room for the night. He made sure it was acceptable. It had a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, radio, TV, coffee maker, and a very comfortable bed.
Although it faced a four-lane divided highway, once the door was closed the room was very quiet. The Hometown Inn looks as if it was built in the 1950s or 1960s, so there's no pool, no meeting rooms, no exercise room. What it does have are very well maintained and exceptionally clean rooms.
The trick is getting there. The Hometown Inn is south of Athens, Ohio, and approaching from the southeast, drivers are routed north of it. It's necessary to drive south on a major highway and make a U-turn across oncoming traffic to get to the road that leads to the motel. On my second or third try, I saw they've drawn a big diagram on the side of the motel showing how to get in. (I succeeded on the fourth try).
The manager and his staff are wonderfully kind and helpful. They do an outstanding job of making their guests feel welcome. They even serve free muffins with the free breakfast coffee in the lobby.
If all you want is a clean, safe, quiet place to sleep, I highly recommend the Hometown Inn.
Family Owned and Clean

When we went visiting we had no idea where to go and stay for one night. Then we found this quaint motel run by a wonderful family. Very pleasant people and clean rooms. The rooms may appear outdated but have a mini fridge and microwave. Yes, it could use with some sprucing up but as far as I am concerned...cleanliness and professional treatment is more important than some grand hotel that could utilize their money by having cleaner rooms. I was impressed that this family stayed on the property and worked well together. Thank you for our one night and if we are ever in the area again, we will stay at the Hometown Inn.
