Comfortable and friendly place in the suburbs

Maria was a brilliant host (despite my having to learn a bit of Spanish to get by). Breakfast was great and the bed was very comfortable. There's a friendly cat too. Walkable from town centre in 15 minutes. Payment is cash only. Would return!
Very expensive for what it is

This was the most expensive accommodation we had in 12 days in Chiloe.
We therefore expected a reasonable standard. What we got was a poky room in the basement up a steep staircase to the not to clean bathroom.
It's 30 minutes walk into town.
There I'd much better accommodation elsewhere
Good option for Castro

We're here on a busy weekend when the Palafitos were tripling their price, so ended up at Hospedaje Maria and were glad we did. Maria is awesome, she was really nice and accommodating. Communication was a bit difficult given our limited Spanish, but we still managed. Our room was good sized, had heating and warm water. The location was fine for us. Although not downtown, it was only a 10 minute or so walk. A benefit is you are close to a lookout of the downtown Castro. Breakfast was similar to most in Chile - bread, jam, eggs. But the homemade jam was the best we had yet. Reminded us of our grandmas jam.
Very pleasant, familiar and magic stay

Nice place to go to relax and enjoy the traditions of Chiloe. During my saty I felt very comfortable and like at home. There you can find a breakfast with homemade bread and try traditional dishies cooked by Maria, the owner of the Guest House. She also help us to plan our journey and recommend many nice places in the city and the island. The market nearby is a very nice place to vist to have a close interaction with local people and food. Sea food available at very good prices. The location is perfect as it's walking distance from the centre and the palafitos. Perfect stay in the maic Island of Chiloe.
Good place to use as a base

Do not attempt to stay here unless you have a car. It is situated a little way out of town, up a hill and difficult to reach on foot. The owner Maria is extremely hospitable and is always on hand to assist you with all your inquires. She also makes a good breakfast (or main meal if you pre-order) - her cooking is excellent. The rooms are large, the wi-fi is good, the bed was comfortable and the shower (although a little old fashioned) was hot & strong. All acceptably clean. On the downside the whole complex feels a little oppressive being made of dark wooden paneling and our room had very little natural light. At night we were cold as there was no heating but Maria told this was going to be installed. On the face of it, it looks very small but the place is a warren of many rooms - make sure you request private facilities when you book as not all come with this option. At night all the local stray dogs take to barking. Oh and Maria doesn't speak English. Good value for money providing you only use it as base - not somewhere to rest & lounge around
