Near the historical centre, the location is great. The place is nice, dormitories are clean but shared bathroom with 2 dorms - actually was not a problem during our stay. Coffee available in the morning.
Good wifi. Good staff.
Overall a good experience.

My husband and I stayed there recently in a private.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Note that their English is quite limited so held to have a bit of Spanish knowledge when dealing with them.
The location is great, it's near everything however note there is a bit of street noise if you have a room in the front.
The facilities are ok, we had a shared bathroom which linked through to the other room. Once you got the hang of locking/unlocking the neighbours door when using then it's fine. The bathroom is clean however note we only had cold water. The room itself was very clean and the bed comfy. We had room 8 which is just off the kitchen which was quite noisy at night but overall a good room for the price.
The wifi is shocking. It's very limited and slow.
The breakfast is the best thing about the place and the air con in the room.
Overall definitely value for money. Also hope you like cats.....

The good:
price,location, friendly staff, breakfast is included juice and eggs w toast, breezy, safety boxes, clean.
The not-so-good:
if reception isnt around to stop them, anyone can get in off the street(but this seems typical for hostals), staff is friendly but not necessarily helpful (they couldn't tell me how to get to Santa Marta. They asked me to clear my bed before checkout the day I was leaving), water pressure is spotty (water literally stops and then comes back), there are street cats that may sleep on your bed when you aren't around.
Finally:
DO NOT BOOK A TOUR WITH THIS HOSTAL: I booked the "lancha" trip to Islas Rosarios y Playa Blanca, and it left around 915 instead of 8 as described by hotel staff. Then the company, Ocean & Land Tours, left me behind on the docks after having lied to me about where to wait and who would call my name to board!!!! They put me on a different tour boat to compensate, and by then it was 945. I speak Spanish, so language was not the issue here!
Overall- nice breezy place to stay, but see my little warnings and have a good time!

This is perfectly located in Getsamany (the historical center) but 10 minutes walking from the walled city. For less than 10 dolars/day (what is very cheap for Cartagena's average prices) we stayed in a 6 bed dormitory and had a good breakfast of scrambled eggs with toasts and coffee.
Nonetheless, it seemed a little insecure once there is no key neither for the front door nor for the dormitory's doors - it means anyone from the streets could enter your dormitory. Moreover, the shared bathroom gets really dirty during the day

Good location on busy colourful street in getsemani - easy walk to old town. Characterful courtyard where you have breakfast ( really tasty scrambled egg with onions, peppers etc, toast and coffee). Rooms a reasonable size with good aircon. Bed and bedding comfortable and clean, but room itself could have been cleaner. Things generally a bit scruffy, but what lets it down is the funny shared bathroom arrangement with the private rooms where 2 rooms share an interconnecting private bathroom, and you have to constantly remember which bolt to do or undo to stop people coming into your room or walking in on you whilst you shower. You're dependent on considerate use by the room you share with too - not the case when one of our party was shut out of their bathroom for 45 min.
There must be a better way ?
