The hotel is centrally located for enjoying the town on foot. A private and protected parking lot allows you to escape the parking chaos on busy shopping days like Saturday.
The hotel room was very clean and even the soft furnishings were refreshed. Our room was very cozy and had almost everything we needed from coffee/tea making (2 tea bags and two sleeves of instant coffee) to plenty of space to store clothes and luggage. Unfortunately, there was no refrigerator.
The bathroom featured a shower/ bath combo complete with glass partition for showering, a hairdryer, plenty of mirrors and storage space, as well as a separate toilet. A full complement of toiletries was also provided.
We opted to skip breakfast which is not included in the price of the room. There is a small market nearby for food needs, as well as cafes in the immediate area.
Our room was classified as a junior suite. A family of 4 could easily stay there comfortably with good privacy options.

The 30 room hotel desserves their stars for the servicable staff and the classy interiour. Since we spent the night partying with a nice dinner we enjoyed the food and for sure the possibility to have food fun and sleep at the same spot! I think a very nice stopover for groups and events!!

We enjoyed our stay at Hostellerie de la Poste we were given a comfortable room, the staff were friendly and we ate well in the restaurant. Our last visit some years ago was memorable for the staff and easy parking. Sadly times have changed but for an overnight stay it was comfortable, quiet and relaxing. The hotel has a car park at the back of the property which was safe and secure. The hotel has an interesting history and although it could do with an update it has a certain charm and elegance.

A charming hotel with enthusiastic and very helpful staff who ensured we enjoyed our visit to this area even more. Lovely breakfast with great pastries and conserves. Easy parking in a good central location. Definitely recommend this historical hotel.

We booked as in a great location for an overnight stop and super history with Napoleon having stayed there. Superb private car park and in the centre of town although a very small and quiet town with little round about. Many famous guests had been there including Duke and Duchess of Windsor in the 40's etc when it had a famous Chef. Our room overlooked a lovely Courtyard but decor was poor including a chipped and cheap laminate on the floor and large cracks in the ceiling and wallpaper from the 60's/70's that even then would have been considered cheap. The room and adjoining ensuite were large but could not be described as luxurious or plush and looked as if it was needing a revamp to try to match the history of the hotel rather than a budget hotel. Clean enough and slept alright although again bedding not of 4 star standard. Breakfast really not of a modern standard with limited juices coffee etc. No hot food from what I could see but what might be considered a basic continental breakfast of the 20 years ago variety. I sympathise with the owners who would need to spend a huge sum to get it back to it's glory days with Avallon possibly now a bit off the coaching/travelling routes that would be a big gamble.It may have been good enough for Napoleon but that was 200 years ago .
