The Hotel 1492 is per se very nice: Clean and comfortable rooms, a nice patio and very helpful and friendly staff.
The one big downside is the location: Firstly, the hotel is situated quite a bit away from the city center (15 minutes by foot); secondely, it is right next to a train line, which is really noisy (whistling) from 5am to 11 pm...

Good price for what you get, breakfast is included, size of the rooms are ok. Nothing special really but a place to rest your head and in a very good location for the airport (20min taxi) and local restaurants. Very good WIFI signal and speed all around the hotel and you do get a TV and safe in your room. Communal areas are very pretty.
However bad points would be:.
Train line behind hotel and VERY loud (Horn) and constant (Every 2 mins), Swarm of insects in our room because unable to close window fully in bathroom. Don't speak very good English so be prepared to learn some Spanish. Requested a taxi from the airport to the hotel for arrival and it was a no show because they had booked it incorrectly on the wrong date. They didn't pick up their phone at all which was worrying in a new country and failed to even cancel the wrong taxi they had booked which lead to some confusion later on.

This hotel has two owners Maritzza and her husband, she is an Angel super nice and cool but her husband is a very rude and nit nice at all, he also treat employees like crap and as a costumer a do not appreciated that because Zoila and Jorge were cool with me when I stay there, but because this grumpy old man I will not back or recommend this Hotel.

nice clean and spacious room on ground floor. Breakfast was plentiful and served in a nice garden setting. Location was good, you can walk to the centre in 15 minutes, but not at night. Yes, commuter trains pass close by and can be noisy.

Hotel 1492 belongs to the same owner as Boutique Hotel de la Luz.
1492 Was in a neighborhood where iron fences topped with razor-wire lined the streets. The Hotel itself was nice. It was clean. It turned out to be a historic place as well. The manager and rest of the staff were very helpful.
The lesson we learned: don't believe online reviews. Both Hotels were probably okay for travelers backpacking their way through the country, but not our cup of tea.
