A good base in a great ski town
Kevinjoreganon 19/04/2017 10:54Situated just over the bridge from the centre of Morzine the hotel is a good base a stay in Porte du Soleil. We had a twin and a triple room, staying BB. Quiet location, with just a little road noise.
Breakfast was OK. Lovely fresh croissants, eggs for boiling, fresh bread and cereals and small selection of cheese & ham. Coffee from a machine which was average at best. Breakfast was what stopped a higher rating.
Rooms were big enough, with comfy beds, although lack a little storage / hanging space for a ski hotel. Shower had to be held above head as no hook which was odd.
Rest was all good. Boot room by the entrance, small lounge bar with selection of drinks and a pool table. Swimming pool nice after a day on the slopes.
Location is pretty good (being in the town centre would cost more). Short walk over bridge to the Super Morzine lift for Avoriaz, A little longer walk to the Morzine lifts (probably about 800-1000m) although you can hop on road-train. Ski hire shops will let you leave skis there which makes this easier (Ski Set Caribou is great).
Morzine a great town for a ski break, and this is a good base.
spring ski holiday
Sharon Ton 02/04/2017 11:00great location. Although when you arrive you feel you're right of town you just walk across the bridge opposite the hotel and you're in the centre of moraine and at the avoriaz gondola. regular ski buses also stop outside.
As we were end of season the hotel was very quiet and they were not offering the half board option. We were happy to eat out any way as Morzine has loads of lovely bars and restaurants but be aware it is the French Alps so it is VERY EXPENSIVE !! The pool sauna and jacuzzi were a great bonus after a days skiing.
The owners were very friendly and helpful. Their English is basic but still better than my French!
I have only 1 criticism-the pillows were a weird shape and a bit uncomfortable but I do find this a lot when I travel in Europe.
I would definitely go again.
Not bad, could do better
Gibberingjockon 30/03/2017 19:42A warm welcome with a family run feel makes this a pleasant place to stay. For skiing the short trip across the bridge to the lifts makes this an ideal location. The facilities are modern, comfortable and clean. This is a good value hotel for a small group and I would, despite some difficulties in choice of eating in or out, stay here again.
Snow sports
Scouse4ukon 26/02/2017 11:58Very clean and well presented. Rooms were nice . Swimming pool great views. Whilst your laying in the pool .. basic continental breakfast . 5 min walk into main shops over swing bridge . Ideal for family's. My only issue would be drinks in the bar could be cheaper so it attract you stay in and relax. As morzine is not cheap for drinks either
Close to Super Morzine lift
Paul Bon 23/02/2017 10:36We booked two rooms as all the family rooms had already been taken. The rooms are nice and spacious and ours was at the front of the hotel so had a lovely mountain view. The hotel has a recently added indoor pool, sauna and hot tub for use after a days skiing. My only critasisum with the hot tub is if you return before 4 o'clock the tub is cold, the hotel should have it running much earlier, i understand its switched on at 12 which I think is too late. The facilities are clean and tidy and the decor very homely with a open fire in the reception/bar area.
As this is a family run hotel service can be poor at peak times especially at meal times as they are all running and serving in the restaurant. The family only speak basic English so communication can be difficult.
It is only a short walk to the super Morzine lift across the suspension bridge however the Pleney lift is a 15 min walk which is too far if you are talking skis and boots back to the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay and have booked again for next year.
