Good location, but lacks cleanliness

I visited this hotel with my husband last month and I have mixed reviews on this hotel.
We had booked a 2-day stay at this hotel through Goibibo. However, when we reached there we found that there was unavailability of rooms due to which they refused us a room on that day. Apparently they gave preference to the guests who booked through them directly.
We had to find another hotel on the same day due to which we wasted an entire day of our 3-day trip to Dalhousie.
They promised us a room the next day, and so we came back to this hotel again, the next day.
Something which I liked about this property is its location. It is located at a hot spot in Dalhousie near Mall road. The view from the hotel is breathtaking.
Food was another thing which changed my opinion about this hotel. It was super scrumptious and worth the money.
Another thing which I didn't like about it was Cleanliness. The bedsheet and the blanket were filthy and stank. It made it difficult for us to sleep at night. Even the bathrooms were not clean, especially the shower area.
They need to work on their management as well as cleanliness. Kindly change the blankets regularly.

Post our fiasco with Hotel Skylark in McLeod we were sure not to check into any 'budget hotels' as the concept of budget hotels in India is twisted. It means dirty cheap hotels and not great facilities within a certain price range. Even basic needs/hygiene of a room are considered luxury demands. So we knew what we would go in for in Dalhousie. Here again because not great hotels were available but just luck by chance we discovered Hotel Ark near Gandhi Chowk(actually 5mins of uphill trek away from the Chowk) the rooms were well equipped and sported a neat look. Smelled great and provided basic things - soap, shampoo, towel, toilet rolls. Clean big rooms with a reasonable mountain view(Read - garbage less view) The hotel also has a two way opening lift. Polite staff and tasty food. My nephew was excited to see a small bar fridge in the room and shower cubicle as well. After the initial shock this hotel was like a breath of fresh air. We regretted that they had availability for only one night else we would have extended our stay for sure. The downside of this hotel was they said they accepted cards however at check out time said the card machine lines are down hence we must pay in cash. As tourists we felt challenged and torn between spending liquid cash vs safer card option. Overall a good option to stay in if you aren't looking for five star luxury hotel. Which I guess are a rarity in this part of Himachal.

This is an average place and we were initially disappointed with the place upon arrival. The rooms however were ok. Two thumbs up for the staff. The service was superb and the staff always helped out with a smile which lifted our spirits up in turn as well. Food is good. In fact, in our entire trip covering Dharamsala, Palampur, Dalhousie and McLeodganj, the food at the Ark was the tastiest. The portions are on the higher side as well. The cherry on the cake is the way you are served during the meals.
The location is smack right in the middle of the market. Its also close to Dalhousie Public School.
Definitely recommended for the service and food !
