Location was good as map but not too easy to reach hotel if you are with children near to san marco and shops the room was to small also bathroom room was too bad about cleaning it was very clean hotel no elevator breakfast fast very normal

This hotel, although small and quite antiquated is I should think typical of all the hotels in Venice. It did our needs though and the staff were friendly enough. The room very old and the window overlooked prison bars!! The breakfast although adequate could have been improved with a better toaster for a start! The tables were very close together and on busy mornings you could hardly get to your chair!
Saying that the vicinity was great - so close to the Square and the Grand Canal. We were only there for 3 days which was enough.

Hotel Ateneo is in a quiet street about 400 meters from San Marco Square. It takes about 1 hour to reach from Marco Polo Airport by water Bus. Nearby stop is Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma you will have to cross 2 Bridges to Hotel. So if u are carrying more luggage s then you will get Porter ( Mostly Bangladeshi) and will charge min about Euro 15 for 2 bags and if u hv more bags it will cost u Euro 20-25. But though expensive, it is worth.
Hotel Has no elevator so you will need to carry Bags on your own or if u are lucky Hotel Staff may help you if it is not odd times.
As one can expect Rooms are small size, very difficult to maneuver in room. We were carrying 3 Bags and was difficult to fit in but we managed. Bed size is queen. Bathroom was smaller too. No width in Bathroom. Probably size was 24" x 96", like a narrow strip.
Room ambiance is typical Venetian hence loud colors and shiny.
Breakfast was typical Continental and cold.still adequate.
Reception staff cooperative especially Francesca.
Hotel has Lobby sitting and Veranda sitting for smoking. Some of the Murano lighting lamps very beautiful n typical Venetian.
Best part of staying in this hotel is the proximity to all sight seeing place in Venice. Gondola ride is about 200 meters. Theatre La Fenice is round the corner. Walking from hotel thro small alleys lined up with beautiful stores displaying Venetian masks and Murano Glass artifacts.
If it is budget n time constrain then it is nice place to stay overnight.But i recommend Hotel Cavaletto which parking.

I stayed at the Hotel Ateneo , at one of my recent visits in San Marco, Italy.
This place is Divine !!!
It took me back to my grandfathers memories , that he often shared with me .
I will be back ...
The location is very sage and easy to reach .

The hotel was clean and nice but extremely dark! Our room looked into an air went and therefore zero natural light got into the room. Also the breakfast room was dark and the toaster from last century..
Other than that, the beds were good and the location is excellent!!
