Good hotel with some issues

We stayed at the Hotel Bolivar recently while attending an event in Cucuta. The hotel is in a very busy area of town and traffic can be difficult around it sometimes. However, since it is an enclosed space, you can get out of it all.
The layout of the hotel is different. This is not a building but a series of small buildings or bungalows. The pools are in the interior spaces and they are decent.
Rooms are hit and miss. I was with a group and some of the rooms felt tired and old while others looked ok. The A/C is noisy and the beds are not very comfortable. Wifi is free but it is very slow and spotty.
My main complaint was the food. You should not probably judge a Hotel by the food, but since it was included, there is no way around it. The portions were adequate, but it was hit and miss (more miss than hit) around properly cooked food with the right level of salt, sugar, etc. It felt like eating at a cheap restaurant.
All in all, I'd say the Hotel is good enough but probably you should get your food elsewhere.
Not hot water

I stayed for only one night due my flight was canceled. Unfortunately was not hot water. And I did not have time to call someone to fix it. So I took an ice shower early. Breakfast was super amazing and great variety. The front desk clerk was not nice and did not apologize for NOT hot water, worse charged me one beverage that I took from the refrigerator.

This is a very comfortable hotel that offers several types of rooms for a reasonable price. There are two swimming pools and there is a gym and a spa. Our spa visit was included in the room we got last time which I recommend for couples. Plenty of space for a walk. Breakfast was also delicious
Good place to pass your day

I went to the hotel Bolivar in cucuta colombia ( in the Semana Santa in colombia which is "Easter" but the whole week).
I expend a couple of days in the hotel, and was a really good experience.
It is a quiet hotel , with nice green areas and a really good pool. The service is great, food is good and not expensive (plates ranging from 12-15dls) and with many alternatives.
great service, but front desk clerk ripped me off!

We were on a medical mission in february 2012. Everything about our stay was great, but long hours and hard work performing surgeries for the less fortunate in Cucuta. The mayor of the town treated us like royalty, rolling out the red carpet!
I was too exhausted to find a bank and asked to exchange currency at the front desk. Security cameras are everywhere. I realized I was cheated out of 80 dollars US. by the clerk, I reported him to several hotel managers. They reviewed the tapes, Oh he gave you money back. Yes I explained, but ZOOM IN and see how much he gave me. They seemed to not understand, but would send me copies of the video footage. It never came. I suspect others have complained about being cheated as there is a small sign posted..., no currency exchanged here! I imagine this has happened to other travelers here before. 80 dollars may not seem like much but is probably 1 weeks wage for this clerk.
My room service fish dinner was very good but pricey at 30 dollars. This exchange incident left a bad taste in my mouth. Dr. Lisa Wilson skykingd18@yahoo.com
