What People are saying

Nice, affordable, comfortable hotel

Mary K on 07/11/2017 22:26

Cute, comfortable place in Genoa! Beware, if you have trouble climbing stairs this might not be the place for you. There is a long corridor from the street to the elevator that takes you to the 3rd floor. Our room was on the 4th floor, and only accessible by an interior staircase. I don't know if there is staff to help carry luggage - it wasn't offered to us, and we managed - but if you have health issues you might have trouble lugging your cases up the stairs.

Reception was prompt and helpful with taxis, and the breakfast is wonderful. Wifi was good. Our room had windows that looked out over the terrace, thankfully the window coverings blocked the western exposure sun well. AC worked fine, as long as we kept a random credit card in the slot to keep it going while we were gone ;)

Bathroom was adequate, but like so many other hotels where rooms have been retrofitted to be ensuite, the bath was cramped, with a tiny shower. It was clean though, so was fine for the one night we were there, but might have become tiresome if there for a longer stay.

Centrally located to everything we wanted to see - all within a 20 minute walk. Other reviewers have mentioned the network of narrow alleyways - I can see where a person could be intimidated by this labyrinth or small passageways that smells of weed, has loud music and young people in 6' wide streets - my husband and I got lost in this maze, but encountered no problems. Would like to stay longer in Genoa next time I visit, seems like an interesting city.

Excellent price/quality balance

This small hotel is centrally located, in Genova’s historic centre, in the Via Cairoli that gives access to the Via Garibaldi, one of the most important streets of this centre where also several ancient palaces are found. Most of the interesting touristic spots, including the old port, are within walking distance from the hotel. According to some tourist advisors, the dense network of narrow alleyways that is typical of the historic centre between Via Garibaldi and the old harbour, is not a place to hang around after 10 p.m., but we have had no problem (we were six people though). The hotel itself has approx. 12 rooms and is located on the 3rd and 4th floor of a taller building (some 9 floors). A lift brings the guest to the reception on the 3rd floor, but the rooms on the 4th are only reached by the stairs (the 3 stars rating might be related to the absence of a lift); the kind staff, the owners family, is however very helpful and brings the luggage to the rooms. Not all rooms are equal, as is their price. The cheaper rooms are really small, but we had a somewhat larger room: #12. Its size and quietness were satisfactory, and the wifi was good; a couple of relative shortcoming though were: a safe-deposit that was too small to contain my tablet; the narrow access to the shower that would make it a corpulent individual difficult to enter; and differences in the floor level of the bathroom (entrance and area around toilet + bidet) which may make it difficult for a handicapped person to use the facilities. These inconveniencies are largely counterbalanced by the friendliness of the staff though. The breakfast buffet, finally, is adequate and varied, though not luxurious.

Interesting hotel near the heart of old Genoa

There is a long corridor with an antiquated lift to the third floor reception. However don't be put off as the staff are really very good. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The breakfast is excellent and the ladies who provide it are very welcoming. This hotel is really near to the main part of the old town with Via Garibaldi just a minute away, and close to the Opera and restaurants.

Super location

Stayed here for 3 nights before travelling onto the Cinque Terre. My first impression wasn't that good, a small antiquated lift on the 4th floor above offices, but once inside it was artistically decorated & we were welcomed by very friendly staff showing us where to find museums etc on a map, it changed my view. The hotel is in a quiet, safe, central area. All sights, bars, restaurants & metro are a short walk away. Nice to walk to the old town along the side streets. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived 2.5 hours early but it only took 30 minutes. In the meantime we were shown to the outside communal terrace where we ordered drinks which came with plenty of snacks. The room was on the small size although this didn't bother us too much as it was very clean and we only had a short stay. The bed was comfortable although the pillows weren't. No traffic noise could be heard but we did hear some noisy neighbours ! Added bonus was to have a kettle in the room to make coffee. The breakfast was good, lots of continental meats & cheeses, different types of bread, fresh fruit and pastries. The owner's wife made sure we had everything we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was always very happy. I would recommend this hotel when visiting Genoa.

Wonderful!

We could not fault this delightful hotel, full of colour and beautiful design with it's individual artist themed rooms, where every attention to detail from the points of view of comfort, efficiency, cleanliness and style have been made.
The owner and staff were all extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. The choice of lovely food for breakfast was enormous and we were rather sad our early train meant we could not do it justice! We have already started recommending Genoa and Hotel Cairoli with great enthusiasm to everyone we know!
