Terrific value for money

We stayed at the Hôtel Canal for seven nights and for this reason chose the larger Malacca room. It was spacious and light with double aspect over the canal and the pool. There was room for us to unpack all our clothes and not trip over the empty cases. The room was well appointed and kept very clean. We woke up each morning to the smell of baking and enjoyed excellent breakfasts; the bread and pastries were scrumptious.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were provided with a plan of the town with recommended restaurants and provided with details of things to do and see. Do heed their advice about restaurants; the better ones are in the side streets and not the Place St Louis which, because of its atmosphere, is however excellent for pre-meal drinks. Do go on the train trip around the Salins du Midi. When we were there the water was deep rose providing wonderful photography opportunities with the walls of Aigues-Mortes as a backdrop. Likewise, do go to the bird sanctuary at Le Pont du Gau if you want to take iconic shots of flamingos. You will have hundreds to choose from.

Yes, reviewers may disagree on how long it takes to get into Aigues-Mortes; we would say 15 minutes to the centre. Either way the hotel is well situated for the town itself and for driving out to the attractions of the Camargue. We recommend it.

Rear view better than front

We stayed for 3 nights in September, we had a "panama" room with a view over the canal. The room was average size with a balcony, a comfortable bed, bathroom with shower. It was very quiet. There is no lift although our room was only on the first floor. There is a fridge in the lobby with free bottled water. Staff largely speak english and are friendly and helpful. It is said to be a 6/7 min walk to the town although this rather depends upon how fit you are, in my case more like 20 min. Parking is in front of hotel although there are spaces at the rear. The hotel is modern and from the front it looks a bit drab, however the rear view is much better with lots of greenery and of course the canal.
Nice buffet breakfast but is at extra cost.

I was happily surprisesd about the quality of this hotel compared to the price - if I could have stayed longer I would have. The room offered was spacious with a big bathroom (disabled layout) and normally this was a more expensive room. Very friendly staff that provided me with all the necessary information seeing this was my first visit to Aigues-Mortes. The location is perfect - along the canal (hence the name 🤣) and only 6 minutes leisurely walking to the old city. Worth to stay more than 1 night - I stayed 2 nights and would return and can surely recommend!

I can really appreciate Jacques' and Patrice's attention to detail in this small hotel along the canal. It was comfortable and quiet and just lovely. Friendly, smiling, accommodating.
Patrice made the morning breakfast buffet a delight to wake up to with his homemade baked goods. And he shared his recipes with us!
The ladies at the front desk spent time with each guest upon check in that was very appreciated; giving each a little intro to the area.
English was not a problem with all of them. Definitely will go back when we return to the area!

First Rate Little Hotel.

We were slightly put off initially by the neighbouring properties, but this is an excellent hotel.
Reception is friendly, efficient and informative; decoration calm and tasteful, and everything is immaculately clean.
Our room was, as we were warned, small, but overlooked the canal with a small terrace, and was comfortable, and had an en suite bathroom.
The town is less than 10 minutes flat walk along the canal side.
Breakfast is very good and includes freshly baked pastries.
Recommended!
