Pluses: Casual California decor, amenities in room, beachfront location.
Minuses: Long-ish walk to center of Santa Monica.
Note: I was upgraded to an oceanfront room with a terrace. This turned out to be a nice room on the ground floor set a bit below the level of the boardwalk. Between that and the wall surrounding the terrace, there was no ocean view, so if that’s important ask for a higher floor room with no terrace.

What a beautiful hotel so Santa Monica. Still has a number of original features which gives it a luxurious feel. Add the beautifully appointed furnishings which are oh so comfy plus the atmospheric lighting and the superb service and there’s not more to want. Our room with an Ocean view was 1st class while the bed gave the best sleep ever. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous is all I can say. This was a fabulous start to our month long traveling trip.
Highly recommend a stay here.

Stayed here for several nights in mid-April, after a few days in Beverly Hills. The grand two-story lobby is so stunning, had to photograph it many times (the stairway and chandelier) and check in was great. Was upgraded to a gorgeous room with a beautiful direct ocean-view, however as it was a bit noisy for me, (on the first floor), I asked for a quieter room was was given a much larger, more upgraded room on a higher floor, although I sacrificed the ocean view but still had a partial ocean-view. It was nice to be in a hotel right on the beach for walks, and the pool area felt very private and exclusive; Ate several meals in the lobby restaurant which had quite a lively scene. The doormen remembered my name every time I walked in, they greeted me personally. And the front desk staff was friendly, accommodating and efficient, eager to please. It's about a 7-10minute walk to the shopping district, everything is pretty close. When I stayed here I ventured towards the library and the Urth Cafe, in the opposite direction of the Promenade. Booked through American Express Fine Hotels for all the amenities.

Stayed there again and the rooms are immaculately clean, service from every aspect is top notch, food and drinks are great. Many of the hotel rooms have wonderful views of the ocean, side walk and the Santa Monica Pier. Every hotel employee encountered offered great service from the valet parking, front desk, restaurant service and the rest of the hotel staff. This hotel offers great views, a good location just minutes from the Santa Monica Freeway. You will not be disappointed.
