We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as part of a tour we were on. It was our least favorite but then it was among the least expensive and least convenient. We had room 110 which faced the street. Despite room darkening shades and good windows we heard the cars and saw the head lights.
The decor was white, black and grey--smoothing but not our style. We found it stark. Our room had a king size bed and a twin bed which ate up a lot of room. There was no chair but there was a desk with a TV at the end of the bed. It was awkward as the desk was longer than the bed was wide and we kept bumping it.
The hotel seems like it gets a lot of business trade and is geared toward that rather than to tourists.
We found the breakfast room cold and not particularly inviting. They did continually make eggs and bacon and did not just keep a pile in a steam table.
We found the hotel too far away for conveniently walking into the historic district. Our tour drove us there. We felt a bit like prisoners at night as there isn't much to walk to.
It was clean. The staff was attentive. The breakfast was fine. It just wasn't "us"

Mantua is a sleepy town. We arrived at the train station around noon. Not a taxi in sight. We called the hotel is ask for help with calling for taxi, but help was refused. After a lengthly wait we managed to find a taxi to take us to the hotel. Rooms were modern, quiet and large with comfortabke beds but poor lighting. While the bathroom is large the shower is tiny. The breakfast buffet was very nice. If you are an older person please be aware it is a twenty minute walk to the Old Town and Palazzo Ducale from the hotel in one direction, and a twenty minute walk to the PalazzonTe in the other direction. It is impossible to find taxis at either of these tourist sights so you will be walking in at least one direction.

Seriously - on 2nd floor overlooking the front door on main street!
Modernized - so what?
Stepping over myself to get to bed. The bathroom was the same size.
BUT the breakfast was very nice.
And NO - it's not really where the historic center is - it's farther and it's not that well lit late at night
My least favorite of any place in all of Italy any time! Sorry

Mantua is very underrated and Casa Poli is a very clean and well run modern hotel on the edge of the historic centre which is easily reached on foot. From the moment Alessandro checks you in you are in excellent care he was one of the best concierges I have experienced anywhere. The include breakfast I'd value for money and the cost of the cappuccino is included. The rooms are light airily and quite large, the hotel also has reasonable parking which in an old city like Mantua is a bonus. Also Alessandro's restaurant recommendations are wonderful .

There are lots of great B+B's in Mantova, but not so many good hotels. This is one - the space is very well-used and bedrooms are roomy and very comfortable. It is not in the historic centre, but is very near (10 minutes walk) and has a couple of really good restaurants nearby. Service is good, as is breakfast.
