Checked in and found reservation through Booking .Com was not as expected so had to pay an extra 60 euro to get the room we wanted. Despite obvious misunderstanding and the fact that better rooms were empty, the staff would rather we went elsewhere. Despite the fact that we had to then pay for an upgrade, the room had cheap thin plastic glasses, similar to budget hotels known across the world at half the price. When we then went to run the bath the water was barely luke worm, good enough for a quick shower in August but far from acceptable for a bath in November. When we complained we were told it was 56 in the boiler, but we were not reasonable to expect it to hold any temperature by the time it reached the room. We were further told that a temperature just at around 35 degrees was in their opinion perfectly acceptable for a bath. If we wished to book out then so be it. We also only had 7 coat hanger between two of us in a family, three person room for a three night stay. The chairs on the balcony were falling apart, although still safe. For an upgrade to the best rooms, such is far from acceptable. They apparently have a good ratings on Tripadviser, so they don' t care either way, apparently it must only be us?
Clearly people who gave such a rating didn't stay out of season or were afraid to tell the truth. In our opinion based on our experience as travellers who use hotels around the world on business on a regular basis, The staff at this establishment with their "stuff you if you don't like it attitude", and the owners, don't deserve to to be in business. My experience of other such hotel service is that most have since ceased trading, Then they blame everything and everyone else. Find a ditch and stay there instead, you will be more appreciated.

we lived on top (4th) floor in this medium sized and rather old fashioned hotel...It is located across the beach and promenade, next to many restaurants...Except 1 girl on a staff, others seemed not so welcoming or warm...Rooms decor is outdated, except bathrooms which are modern...There is a central AC which has NO cold air, the lowest I got was ~76F os it was useless; opening windows at night does not give you a ventilation relief until ~3am; we stayed in mid Oct so we survived without working AC, not sure about summer...WiFi in rooms was on and off, but mostly off, it worked OK in the lobby.
A hotel with charm and atmosphere

When viewed from the outside, Casablanca of Almunecar could have come straight out of a scene from the iconic film of the same name. The family-run Casablanca is not the most modern of hotels, but it is very well kept and has a lot of charm, character and atmosphere. And do not worry, they do have wifi, air conditioning and flat-screen TVs. The owners and staff are all extremely kind, polite and helpful.Based on recommendations we spent an extra 20 euros per night to upgrade from a standard double room to a larger room with a balcony, which was very nice. The in-house restaurant serves delicious food at a fair price. The location of the hotel could not have been better, straight across the street running parallel to the beach.
An interesting alternative

Booked this hotel based on unconventional looks and past trip adviser reports. Loved the multi-coloured tiled facade, where a strong moorish/morrocan influence can be seen. Room size depends on location. Balcony rooms left and right are a great size, other rooms of average proportions.Quirky furniture and good showers helped the overall impression. Clean and comfortable, our 3rd floor balcony room had lovely views over the sea and public area below, which often had a market type stalls and local children playing. Food was ok but better value was found on the beach front restaurants nearby, which offered a great place to end the long, sunny days. Asked for high floors but they could only accomodate 1 of our 2 rooms. I think most visitors will appreciate this property but it is not without drawbacks. My sister had a 1st floor room and found it very noisy, especially in the early morning when staff downstairs were cleaning, moving furniture and talking. The parrot park is a great little tourist attraction but as it it close by, some may find the noise wakes them up too early. Parking could be a problem at peak times but we found a space every time we returned from our day trips. This hotel and area is further away from traditional uk resorts and not all hotel staff and local restaurants were english speakers. The flip side is that it did add to our holiday experience. However, if you are checking in or out with the "older" reception gentleman, discussing any details of your bill or requesting information, be prepared for a long wait. Overall I enjoyed the experience, especially the location and ambience. Noise/language/parking problemsmay impinge on some.

Stayed here with husband and elderly mother. On check in staff lovely and were able to check in early .
Staff on outside terrace were all lovely and very polite and efficient .
We had a wonderful lunch of advocado salad and husband had very good pork chop and home made chips. Excellent value and very tasty.
Room very clean with big shower ( 205) . Parking outside hotel free after 31 august. highly recommended.
