Lovely hotel

Went to Naples for a city break. The hotel is situated centrally for travel, being close to the railway station, the bus station and the metro. The location is interesting as it is in the middle of a market place, which produces a lot of rubbish which sadly the hotel is surrounded by. Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly by a member of staff, who really couldn't do enough for us. This was true of all the staff. Breakfast was everything a continental breakfast should be and there was plenty of it. The coffee was excellent. The rooms were clean, and adequate for our needs. The bed was really comfortable.

Excellent choice in Naples

We stayed for 14 nights in this hotel. The hotel is very well situated, close to the Train Stations (there are two train stations: Garibaldi and Circumvesuviana) and close to the historical centre.The building is recently complet renovated.
We arrived at 10 a.m. and the staff invited us to a coffee until the room is ready. In 10 minutes the room was ready and we received from the desk a free map of Naples and a guide in english and many many informations about Naples and around Naples.
The room was very clean and dotated with: fridge, flat tvset Samsung, AC .The beds were very comfy . The wifi connection was strong and worked perfect all the time. The bathroom was very clean and well dotated. Every day they changed the towels and cleaned the room. The breakfast was ok ( cheese, salami, croissants, viennoiseries, yogurts, flakes , sweets, jam etc etc and a very very good big cup of capuccino or tea or coffee hand made) so everyone could choose something good for him.During two weeks, the atmosphere was extraordinary-the staff was very friendly and helpful : they asked us every day if all is ok or if we need something or suggested us where to go , giving informations about the public transport, connexions etc. So they tried to make us feeling like home.
Important to know:
1. Naples and around Naples are one of the most beautiful touristic site of the world. There are so many beautiful places to visit than you must reserve much days for your travel (must see: Naples, Pompei, Ercolano, Sorento, Positano, Salerno, Amalfi, Caserta, Pozzuoli, Capri, Ischia).
2. Mind the prices with the public transport ( excepted Capri and Ischia) are very cheap ( by exemple a return ticket to Sorento is 7.80 euros and a one day ticket from Sorento to Positano and Amalfi and other places is 8 euros).
3.Mind: the first sundays of each month many museums and the Pompei site can be visited for free.
CONCLUSION: we'll return next year to Naples to the same hotel.

Good hotel in heart of busy Naples

Naples surprised me in that it was a lot scruffier and worrisome than maybe I'd anticipated. Whilst Hotel Colombo is situated in a dodgy area, the hotel itself is pleasant and clean. The staff were friendly and did their best to speak English and I had no problems understanding them. The room I stayed in (104) was the perfect size for a short stay but as we stayed 5 nights we outgrew it (our fault, not the hotel's). We did not try breakfast but it was cheap at €6. The city tax was €2.50 pp per night. There are nice takeaways near the hotel which are cheap and open late. The real curse/blessing of this hotel is its location. We never ventured out past 11pm and always had an eye fixed on what was behind us but by contrast the central train station is a short 4/5 minute walk away. From here we went to Pompeii and Rome. I would recommend this hotel if staying in Naples and would stay here again.

My husband and I spend a week at the hotel, the staff are very attentive but not intrusive, always willing to give any help in direction to places to visit, very approachable staff, lovely people, the bedrooms are small but very comfortable and clean towels changed every day a mini bar and safe in the room and air conditioner , the breakfast could have done with a bit more variety but it was enjoyable, the location is very good and although the area is very run down and a lot of pick pockets we were warned, we never had any bother with anyone I did not feel unsafe at anytime, we really enjoyed our holiday and liked our hotel very much there was not a lot of noise at night time

Great base in Naples

The location close to the train station Porta Nolana is excellent - very convenient for great day trips (Sorrento, Vesuvio, Pompei, Capri) and still within walking distance to the Old Town

The staff was helpful and patient with my attempts to use my broken Italian, the breakfast is basic (which is typically Italian) but nice: four different varieties of coffee, toast, yogurt etc.

the bathroom was really very small but in a good condition and always clean. I also loved their AC system: you just put a stub on the key chain in a plug in the wall and it comes on, no annoying settings

A/C and Internet worked great. Breakfast included, staff was nice. Minibar in the room items are chargeable

The bath linens were, however, clean and replaced every day.

The ferry to Capri is 17.5 Euros per person each way
The train from Porta Nolana to Sorrento 3.90 Euros each way journey time about 65 mins
The train from Porta Nolana to Pompeii 2.90 Euros each way journey time about 30 mins

Recommend that you take train from Porta Nolana station which is the stop before Piazza Garibaldi as this is first stop and you will get a seat for journey because next stop Piazza Garibaldi the train becomes jammed packed

The street markets are an extra bonus - can buy anything cheap - warning don’t buy packs of 200 cigarette cartons of street sellers they are fake but look real - buy from shop

The staff were very helpful and professional
