What People are saying

Great location, but what a dump!

marlazoeon 21/07/2017 20:27

We stayed at Chalet Hotel Cristallo on a G Adventures Mont Blanc Explorer trip in July. The location is right in the middle of town, which is great, but that's where the compliments end. The rooms were dark, stuffy and very hot (even with the windows open). The blankets old and scratchy. The lighting nonexistent. The plumbing antiquate and terribly out-of-date. The tub, one of those old-fashioned, "sit-on-the-edge" kind of tubs was hard to get in and out of, especially after 5 days of hiking. Also, the placement of the shower in relation to the tub was convoluted making it very difficult to shower without almost falling. The carpeting on the stairs was frayed and in may places tearing away from the steps making it very dangerous to go up and down. The Internet was a flipping joke! It was worse than the old fashioned "dial up" and only available on the reception level. It actually took me 12 hours to download a book on Audible. In this day and age, bad Internet and bad plumbing are totally unacceptable. Furthermore, all of the rooms face the west (i.e.: setting sun) and are very hot. There are NO fans and NO air conditioning. The rooms were way too hot, even with the windows open. At first, they put e on the top floor where I thought I was going to die. The room, which is under the slate roof, was like a sauna. Totally unacceptable! There was no lighting to speak of. I actually had to use a flashlight to read my book at night. Breakfast was a joke! Canned fruit, stale croissants and store-bought sliced cheese. And "Mr. Grumpy" (i.e.: the waiter) was a terror to deal with in the morning. Just asking for a cup of coffee was an ordeal. He was more concerned about taking a smoke break (during breakfast service) than he was with his guests. The only saving grace to the hotel was Georgio who worked the front desk. He was gracious, well educated and genuinely interested in taking care of his guests.

Wonderful location and staff

We were really surprised at how much we loved this place! As others have mentioned, the best part is the reception staff. He was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our short stay, giving us great suggestions for hiking and dining. The location was perfect, as well - right off the main street, so quiet but still within very easy walking distance to everything. Our room was perhaps a little dated, but spacious, very clean, and had spectacular views of the town and the mountains. The room also had four large windows that let in a wonderful breeze for us. We both slept like babies here. Breakfast was also pretty good - continental, but had lots of choices, including hard-boiled eggs and some delicious locally-made yogurt. Only downside was that the wifi is only available in the lobby, although that just means you get to hang out with the staff some more :). Stay here - you won't regret it!

Enjoyed this stay

I really liked this hotel. Charming and quaint. The staff are absolutely great. They were so nice, hardworking. We really enjoyed the breakfast too. Wide variety, fresh food. Ask for the cappuccino or hot chocolate!

Run down, but comortable hotel in great location with great Mark Warner Staff - I would return

Agree very much with previous review, great staff, great location, knowledgeable and professional ski guides, room ok but no TV , bathrooms very tired, pity open fire in the lounge not being used as was a bit chilly at times. Very convenient leaving skis and boots at lift station when skiing in Courmayer, also good skiing in Pila and La Thuile - easy to take the local bus.

Tired, in need of refurb but saved by the excellent staff

Mark Warner has discovered a winning combination...employ intelligent, well mannered young people and they will make up for a tired looking hotel which is cold and in desperate need of a makeover.
I have come here before and I will come again...but it won't be for the decor, the gurgling bathrooms, the cold lounge and dining room or the mediocre wine at dinner.

The success of this place is down to the staff who make every effort to make you feel welcome and to the ski hosting which is perfect for solo travellers and couples/friends of different abilities.
