Avoid like the plague

It's a shame that I can only rate hotels from 1 to 5, because this place rates a zero.
My wife and I are currently on an inter-railing holiday around Europe. We decide where to go and then book a hotel. We decided on Vienna and had a look for a cheap and cheerful hotel. As we're out all day we only want somewhere clean to sleep, shower and have breakfast. The Cyrus seemed to fit the bill as it had a 3 rating. How wrong I was. I wouldn't class this as a hotel. It's more of a run-down doss-house. The curtains were falling off the rails, but even if they weren't, they still wouldn't have covered the windows. There was an antiquated boiler in the "bathroom" with covers missing and exposed wiring. The "bathroom" is actually the entrance lobby to the room. You enter from a corridor with holes in the wall, electrical trunking falling off the walls, and enter past the radiator with the ends hanging off. On the left is the toilet which is badly stained. Just past that is the basin which stops the toilet door opening fully. The cabinet which houses the basin is rotting away at the bottom. Above the basin is the aforementioned boiler. Next to that is the shower. The walls were stained with various colours of what looked like a combination of shower gel and toilet cleaner, and the shower curtain needed a good wash or replacement.
We then come to the bedroom. The main light was a 3 bulb fixing. Unfortunately it only had 1 bulb in it. There were 4 rectangular wall lights, but only 1 of those worked. There were 2 cheap single beds and 1 cheap double bed pushed up against the walls. This, combined with the non- functioning curtains, made for one of the worst stays that I have ever had. We had booked for 2 nights but had to cancel the second night via the company who we had booked through, because there was no-one at reception to speak to. In fact, the company who we had booked through were unable to communicate with the hotel as no-one would answer any of the telephone numbers which they had listed for them.
Would I recommend this hotel? Not even to my worst enemy.
DON'T

We booked this via hotels.com it had a eating rating of 68, trip advisor had it as a 3. We only wanted somewhere to sleep for 2 nights so 'cheap and cherrful' was fine.
BUT
They didn't seem to be expecting us and if we could have left on the first night we would have.
Problems included:-
There was lots of half done building work showing exposed wiring.
The curtains were hanging by 2 curtain hooks.
There was a central light fixture of 3 lights 1 was missing light bulb and 1 was non-working.
There were 3 individual wall lights - only 1 worked and the cover was cracked.
Due to the non attached curtain the street light shone in.
The floor needed sweeping under the beds.
There was toothpaste above the basin.
The shower walls were dirty and the shower was a law unto itself.
The towels were barely larger than a hand towel.
There was a hole in the sheet.
The radiator was hanging off the wall.
The wiring sticking out of the boiler looked 'dodgy'. The flue not much better.
The room was large and had 4 beds. The bedding and towels appeared clean.
We contacted hotels.com who tried to contact the hotel to cancel the 2nd night - they couldn't contact them on any of the numbers on their system. There was no one we could talk to in Reception. We left in the morning and are at the Hotel Kolbeck up the road - I recommend that if you are considering the Cyrus - don't.
Not a great hotel to stay

The bathroom sink wasn't working and stinking miserably. Looks like no hotel staff was bothered about cleaning it. It made the entire room to smell awful. The only good part about the hotel is that it is near to the main train station of Vienna. The door handle was broken too and we had to waste a lot of time trying to get in or out of the room. I would not recommend this hotel if you want to have a good time in Vienna.
Unpleasantly surprised

From previous reviews, I have had very modest expectation before going. What I got surprised me. We were given a room first without towels. When we tried to exit the room, the door handle broke off. Fortunately, a neighbour heard us - otherwise we would be locked out.
We were switched to another room. Then the elevator broke and went without lights for two days.
The receptionist was nice enough to offer us another room.

he is right about the smell. there are smokers there... but the hotel is not in the SUBURBS 3 from Hauptbahnhof.5 Metro stops to the center (Karsplatz) is for sure not the suburbs. when i am in Vienna i use the hotel since quite a few years. got ALWAYS a room, even when the place was officially fully booked. i work since 50 years in the hospitality business and know where to look. the hotel is indeed an older building. but the rooms are being renovated, one floor by one floor. and that takes time. main thing for me is and was, a clean bed to sleep in. nothing else. and good breakfast. and that i got all the time. please note, the time -when did you travel- is not correct. but i have to select one...
