I was looking for a hotel on the border of Spain-Portugal, for one night and found this gem. A hotel in a star-shaped fort in the middle of nowhere, intriguing... Well, it is beautiful. We were welcomed by 3 lovely young women who accompanied us from the reception to our rooms, explained everything and made us feel very welcome. The rooms are spacious and very modern but without imposing on the old ruins. The inner court it beautiful and the calm absolute. At the advice of the hotel we booked diner (the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and we arrived in the evening after a long day travelling) and were more than pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, the service and the excellent quality of food (we took the proposed diner menu for 25 euros/person). After diner we sat outside in the lovely sitting area in the inner court and enjoyed the calm and serene atmosphere. The only minus point of this hotel (and I have to admit I don't know what went through the interior designer who otherwise did such a marvelous job) is that as a concept the toilet has no door!!!! The hotel is designed as a romantic getaway but I fail to understand this concept, especially as there are no real windows to the rooms. In spite of this, I will surely stay here again .

As said before by all guests, this hotel has a spectacular location inside a fort, just across the border from Portugal, with Almeida only ten minutes away. It is literally in the middle of nowhere, with a tiny village a few kilometers away. Excellent breakfast. We did not have dinner due to the high prices. The workers at the reception desk were very polite, friendly, and helpful.
I would reduce the price of the restaurant and cafeteria dishes to attract more guests, who I am sure drive the short distance to Almeida where there are more options at much lower prices.

This is an incredible Hotel, built into the ruins of a border fort, the Hotel is actually in Spain but we came from Portugal 30 meters away.
The bedrooms are unique, built into subterranean tunnels. The restaurant is very good and the price incredibly cheap for the quality of your stay, the amazing building is the star.

Quite a pleasant arrival when we came upon this old fort, a bunch of stones, ruins, mix bag of surprises?
The fact is, after a long couple of days Touring the portuguese spanish border on a very special Bicycle, the last place one would expect to stay is inside a bunch of stones with luxury rooms. Pleasant.
I stick with pleasant because I always look at or into the Soul of both the areas I visit and the places I stay. Not sure what to make of this place. Curious? Fun? Different (very different)? Just an experience? It does have the feel it has everything yet something is definitely missing.
Makes for great pictures.
Worth visiting that is for sure but what kind of Soul? Confusing. Not clear. Was happy to leave and go across the border to Portugal :)

This old fort which was once a Regiment HQ during the Battle of Peninsula has been transformed into a luxury hotel. Keeping some of the old and new decor this place is amazing. Much better then I thought it was going to be. It's has a bar and breakfast area, each room comes with wifi and modern ensuite. There is a sofa and TV area in each room. This hotel certainly has the best of both worlds. Fantastic little find. Located just a few miles from the Portugal border. The hall way walking into the hotel is amazing you feel like you are walking through a old fort/castle with the original bricks and rifle racks along the walls.
