The hotel is centrally located. It is near lots of places to eat and lots of shopping. The hotel itself is OK. The rooms do need some TLC. The first room I was given, there was not hot water. You have to call the Front Desk and request to have the water heater turned on and you have to wait approximately 20 minutes before you get some hot water. The first room given had issues with the water heater so I was moved to another floor where the water heater was indeed working. The price of the room was moderate despite the fact that the rooms do need some attention. The service at the Front Desk was superb as well as in the restaurant. The rate does includes breakfast, though I never had breakfast at the hotel. I did go to the restaurant to have lunch. The pool is small bue refreshing.

Comfortable bed. Price is fine around USD $40 per night with breakfast included. Bedroom had AC but the blankets had stains, not good looking. Service in the restaurant is mediocre, more than 20 min pass and just a simple scrambled eggs are not ready yet. We left without having breakfast. Very dated bedrooms but at least we had a good night of sleeping in a comfortable bed. Still wondering what the heck the stain on the blankets was....

I stayed here a long time ago. Recently went again and was just the same. The pool is still pretty cool. My dad actually rented a room here permanent for his pilots some times two. So we always got the choice when the pilots were not around to stay in the room. Oh great childhood memories.

How can I say all this nicely..? Well.. It's fairly "new", and I don't think there is a better one in the area.. However, let me take you on my experience of it..
Check in: Right off the bat: we have wifi, but it doesn't work.. Pretty much stayed that way for the whole week.
We go to the restaurant for a late meal, it takes an hour and a half to get a plate of pasta in spite of the empty restaurant.
I go to bed with a room with windows that don't close.
Get thirsty, see a mini fridge (success, right?) only to find everything in it is totally frozen.. I comment this at the front desk and they laugh it off..
Get up for my shower and it is literally three drops of water, with uneven temperature and to turn it off completely you actually need to use your towel. Speaking of towels, you get either a towel and a bath mat or a towel and a hand towel, depends on the days..
I guess it's not "bad" in itself and it is relatively clean and the staff are very nice other than the fact that not very helpful..
However, all that said, I don't think there is anything else in Cartago.
