Excellent dinners, relaxing atmosphere
Per Oskar Aon 04/07/2015 19:42We stayed at the hotel for 5 days in june 15 and we where impressed by the cheap 6 €! and excellent dinners that gave us a good ending of days in alpin mountains.Quiet and rustic rooms in the center of this city and good posibilities to have sporty days in different cities and mountains.
We will son be back!
Excellent service and food
tolex3on 04/03/2014 20:02I just spent a week of skiing at Excelsior, with a group of 34 people, adults, children and youth. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience: friendly staff, great service and food, perfect location, beautiful building and interior. Also, a good ski storage and care room.
Great Location
Imelinaon 30/12/2012 11:16Romantic Hotel Excelsior is a beautiful old building conveniently situation on the 'main' street in the old part of Cavalese, not far from shops, cafes etc. We were concerned that the location of the hotel may be a disadvantage as it might have been noisy, but we were given a quiet room next to a rapidly flowing river. The hotel has a lovely feeling and the staff are wonderful, especially Roberta who seems to have her finger on the pulse and nothing is too much trouble for her. We stayed for over a week with half board.
Room: Comfortable bed, and a sufficiently well appointed room for a comfortable stay. The bathroom was large, with only a shower though, and the water pressure is almost non-existent. Also takes a long time to heat up which isn't ideal if you've returned from the cold and are looking forward to a hot shower. The bathroom doesn't have a bath and is quite cold (the radiator to heat the bathroom is turned off for the day and only switched on at night). There is not much offered by way of soaps and shampoos etc and we had to buy our own to supplement.
The room lacks a mirror...
Spa: The spa is small and there is only really a sauna and a turkish bath to make use of. Some sort of small jacuzzi bath was also available, but we guessed you would have to pay extra for it.
The food: Breakfast was a little monotonous. Every day, the same processed ham and slivers of cheese were on offer, plus the usual cereals, jams, croissants and sweet cake and a small selection of fruit (apples, mandarins, pears and kiwis). After a week we were sick to death of ham and cheese.
Dinner had to be preselected the night before for the following evening and was palatable enough, but we ventured into restaurants a few times to break the routine.
The owner of the hotel speaks very limited English, and if Roberta isn't around, it's not easy to communicate your needs.
The hotel has parking available, if you have a car (which you need if you want to ski at Passo di Lavaze, and especially out of season when there is a limited bus service). The parking is about 400m away, in an underground garage. Not that convenient.
We took the bus to Cavalase from Ora, which was 45 minutes and a pleasant scenic drive. The bus dropped us 100 m from the hotel which was great. When we wanted to leave however, we discovered that we needed to walk to the bus station to take the bus back to Ora. The bus station wasn't far (about 300m or so), but with luggage and skis .... you needed to make to trips by foot, or hire a taxi for about 12-15 euros.
We missed a pool and a decent spa...
The location of the hotel is perhaps the biggest drawcard, and of course Roberta, who is the hotel's biggest asset.
Worth to stay here
smaqlon 28/03/2012 16:42We spent a week in this hotel in march 2012. For us Cavalese was a starting point for skiing. The hotel is very nice, even as a building (a bit like an old castle) - one of the most beautiful buildings in the vicinity. The hotel is situated in the most interesting area in Cavalese, next to the stream, with beautiful church and historical jail vis-a-vis. The food was really tasty. Staff is nice and helpful. I fully recommend this hotel.
