What People are saying

Perfect hotel in a perfect location

Victoriahannafordon 08/11/2017 18:24

This hotel is set in the most perfect location in the most perfect setting on lake como, the staff were very friendly and the room was perfectly clean and comfortable, we had use of a safe in the room and it had a perfectly equipped bathroom with hairdryer, the breakfast was ok very basic but had just enough choice to keep us going, the swimming pool is not heated but in October we didn’t go there to swim. The boats dock right outside of the hotel and you can have an ice cream whilst you wait for your boat to arrive, over all we had a fantastic family weekend away on lake como it is a beautiful place to go.

Beautiful old style grand hotel

Lovely room at front of hotel looking over the lake. Stunning views. Ideally located for boat trips and local eateries. Bellagio is a beautiful place and we had lovely weather. October temperature in low to mid twenties suited us nicely. The hotel is old style and we loved sweeping staircases and coloured windows. Staff pleasant and helpful. Good WiFi throughout the hotel.

An enigma

This is a beautifully restored old world hotel. It was clean and spacious. It carries a 3* rating but with a few minor changes could become a 4* easily. Firstly, please do something about the shower. Like most European hotels it was a bath that doubled as a shower. But it really wasn’t because the hand held shower spray was just that. Nowhere to attach it to and because the flex is too rigid, more open than not the floor had a shower. Secondly no fridge. It does get a bit noisy due to the ferry but the convenience is worth it. Finally the breakfast. It was rather limited. No big deal for what we were paying. But the coffee was probably the worst I have ever had, anywhere. And a note on the staff. Very friendly and welcoming. Oh and we were on the third floor and the lift could access our floor and that meant luggage up and down stairs. I noted from other reviews that it had been a problem for some weeks

Great views and central location

We booked this hotel based wanting a well located hotel which serves breakfast, has wifi and lake front views. We found the last available room (someone had cancelled) in Bellagio at our price range at Hotel Splendide (booking over 3 months ahead for last weekend in Sept). We were not disappointed, as it was also a good value for the money especially considering Bellagio is the pearl of Lago dI Como. Our room was a good size and had high ceilings, 2 twin beds pushed together as a king and a lovely balcony on the 2nd floor overlooking the hustle and bustle of lake front Bellagio. Having lived in cities we are not as sensitive to noise as others, but with the windows closed at night it basically muted most sounds, however I liked the sound of ferries in and out of ports and restaurant hustle and bustle so was never an issue. Also there was an optional full metal screen that came down over the window for those who like total dark. While the bed mattress wasn't up to Marriott type standards it was ok for 7 nights. Bathrooms were very clean, a small shower and the basics provided shampoo and shower gel in packets and small soaps. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, a large cheerful dining room with everything from eggs and bacon to all the typical cereals, fruits, yogurts and sweet offerings at many Italian hotel breakfasts. They had several machines for cappuccino, espresso, etc that actually made decent coffee. We were there end of September and due to a cold snap and gray days, we were not able to enjoy the pool area which extended up the hill behind the hotel pleasantly terraced at different levels with lounges and sitting areas strewn about which would be wonderful in sunny and warmer weather. The hotel staff were very attentive and pleasant both at the desk and in the main dining room, my husband speaks fluent Italian and mine is so so, so communication is rarely an issue for us. The only drawback was the wifi tended to be spotty on the 2nd floor (2 bars) and actually went out for a day hotel wide. We really used the web a lot to plan our activities each day, between extensive ferry systems and villas to visit, restaurants to try, as a foreigner wifi is pretty important. For the most part it worked ok. I would actually give this hotel a 4.5 based on our experience.

VERY satisfied guest

We recently spenta very enjoyable week at the Hotel Splendide(booked through Inghams). This is a family run hotel and it suited us down to the ground. We were made very welcome at the moment we arrived and we found the staff to be most cheerful, efficient and helpful at all times. The girls and ladies always had a smile on their faces and we had some good banter in the restaurant with the maitre d`hotel Luca and the other staff Salah,Walter and Frederico. Thanks! The breakfast was not "full English Breakfast" ((the fried bacon and scrambled egg was very tasty) but there was a very comprehensive array of items for a continental breakfast. There was always a good choice in the evening but we always started with the soup because it was truly delicious. The main course was a bit upmarket for us(being simple folk) but we always finished up with a great fruit salad. The room itself was absolutely fine and we loved sitting on the balcony(with refreshments of course!) watching the world go by-the lakefront situation near the ferry port provided interesting viewing. We had numerous outings by boat (and bus) and one organised tour to St Moritz.
This was a wonderful holiday, our only complaint was the steepness of the streets away from the lakefront!!
To all at the hotel MANY THANKS!
