Think carefully about what you want out of this holiday.

We wanted to visit the area but to avoid the big Horse Country Resort which we knew to be full of young families with a focus on riding, children's clubs and evening entertainment that we were not interested in. Consequently we found Hotel Fortezza on line. We booked 2 nights at what we thought to be a 4* only to find on arrival that it did not meet our expectations at all. It was not a stand alone hotel as advertised, but part of that bigger complex though clearly not advertised as such, and we were charged an additional £5 per person per day for use of the private beach and plastic loungers and animations which had not been clear when we booked. We were given a hideous room with broken air conditioning, shabby furnishings, overloaded electrical sockets taped together and a portable television with only Italian programming. By 3 am the room was so uncomfortably hot that we asked to be moved and while we were given a much nicer room overlooking the garden the manager's attitude the next morning was both ungracious, defensive and downright rude. Breakfast was a canteen of an event with low cost fatty salami, limited fruit and grim coffee and we couldn't face the Tex Mex restaurant dinner option. While the sea was fine 750 meters away from the private beach, at the dedicated area with the loungers and lifeguard you have to wade through a good 12' of seaweed to be able to swim in clear water and you couldn't directly sunbathe on the sand as it was also covered in weed. Not a happy experience.

Worn out...

A senior Danish couple stayed here - in Horse Country Resort - for two nights late August 2013.
We had booked Hotel Fortezza, but was accommodated in a hotel in a different place in the resort. Hotel Ribbot, as far as we remember.
The resort is somewhat worn out. Though clean and functioning, but far away from the glorious pictures you find on the differetn websites.
Walking around the area and looking at Hotel Fortezza, we sure hope that noone will be accomodated there. It is NOT very good looking. As a matter of fact, it looks very run down and not maintained at all. Inside the reception area it is dark and gloomy and the area outside where you can eat is not very inviting either.
For the pools, they are OK, but as for the beach you have to walk through the resort before you reach the beach.
We did NOT feel like having our dinners there. It was a menu of the day and way too expensive. Instead we recommend the inn in Arborea: GALLO BIANCO. They serve excellent food at a decent price.
The recpetion people were very busy and not very friendly. A large arrangement regarding horses took place at the time of our staying there as well as a conference on tourism.
Internet is only possible in the reception area.
Some music/disco at the main pool made it impossible to go to bed early.
We will not stay there again.

Awful

Hotel Fortezza is not a hotel, it is merely a building within part of a much larger complex, Horse Country. Externally it looks ok, with nicely kept gardens and pools. Internally it is shabby, poorly maintained and smells of damp. We were very dissappointed as it was marketed as a small quiet hotel. IT ISN'T! We were kept up each night till approx 3am with loud music and parties. Horse Country is a cross between Butlins and an 18-30 holiday...awful.
Food was second rate and expensive and without a car you are stuck as nothing is within walkable distance from the complex.
Avoid avoid avoid!!
