No frills, clean, functional hotel in quiet Neighbourhood. Second stay in two months; preferred 1st visit in building with Reception: larger room with big balcony, 4th floor, o'looking pool (no. 410). This room unavailable for 15 August long weekend.
This time in no. 41 which has some elevator noise.
Breakfast fine; buffet with fresh fruit, pastries, cake, breads, cold meats and cheese.
Pool v clean; not enough sun beds for all but us there ever? Pleasant clientele; families, couples and some singles. No screaming kids or loud homecomings at night.
They will recommend Don Bosco and Sla 8 beaches; former is the nicer of the two. If mattresses available, the beach immediately to the west side of Sla 8, is even better.

HOTEL GARDEN ALASSIO ITALY
We spent nearly a week at this hotel on a National Coach Holiday and I can say right away that overall it is a very good hotel to stay at. Not plush or posh just a nice place to stay and our room was not one of the more sumptuous hotel rooms we have stayed in over the years but it was functional. Let’s take some of the main points, our room was checked over every day, clean towels, beds made, bin emptied that sort of thing. A plus, if you like, was the free use of a safe and fridge in your room, payment is required in Spain for such things and although I could nit-pick, yes that is what it would be, then I can mention that the toilet/shower space. It was long and narrow and people of a larger stature than my wife and I may have found some bother being comfortable sat on the toilet as there was a wall directly in front of you even though the bedroom size itself was adequate. What else? Oh yes the TV, now I know that you don’t go all the way to Italy to watch TV but I do like a news channel from home to keep me abreast of things, but in this hotel, nothing. The TV had about 100 channels covering many languages but nothing in English even staple channels from other hotel’s abroad like CNN were in Italian. BBC World News was in the programme guide but not available, the bed was comfy enough but I never actually slept in the bed I just laid on the top of it due to the warm nights. So passing on from our room to the other important consideration, food.
You had 2 different restaurants for your meals, the hotel is actually 2 different buildings, breakfast was downstairs from the reception/bar area and your evening meal was across a small road to another part of the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet style, and the usual continental stuff of meats, cheese, fruit, cakes, yoghurts, much the same as other hotels abroad. Tea and coffee were available as were fruit juices, bread, butter, but the only thing missing was any cooked stuff whatsoever, even eggs were hard boiled (well yes cooked if you like) the food was tasty enough. The evening meal was a service style meal, you had a menu on your table, 2 pages, which you filled in for the next night’s meal, this makes things easier for the hotel it seems. But what you receive, or what you ask for, is not always the same as you get back home, dumplings threw my wife and I, they are not the type of dumplings that I have seen before. But overall the food was ok, nothing too outrageous although we went out for a meal one night as the menu for that night’s meal was not to our liking. And here it is worth mentioning the service, which had to be seen to be believed.
We had 1 waiter for about 40 of us, now at first this was rather disconcerting for us as we were on a table furthest away from the restaurant entrance, so we would be last for everything. Well it didn’t quite work out like that, you could help yourself to a salad bar as you walked in, carrot, lettuce, onion, beetroot and other stuff, and kind of starter if you like. But then the pieces of paper you filled in came into play as one copy had gone to the kitchens and the other was on your table, you had the same table all the way through, not so for breakfasts. The waiter came to your table and read your order then went off and brought the food, voila. But like I say only one guy so I feared the worst but I was wrong. I never did get to know his name but he was a pleasant young man who moved like lightening around the tables not only bringing the meals but also bottles of wine and water, and dealing with anything that came up, he was brilliant. Likewise, the bar staff/reception staff, they were one and the same some of the time and even though there was minimal staff on duty they worked tirelessly, especially seeing as the deal was 3hrs of free drinks on top of coffee and tea for free all day. At breakfast there was a guy who topped up the food and cleared the tables he was a busy bee as well for there was a coach load of Germans staying at the same time.
The pool was quite large but we never used it but the outside seating area, mostly sofa styled seats, was a boon for the balmy nights. There was no entertainment but music was piped to the outside seating area as well as the reception, and not the booming type of music either something soberer most of the time. Most of the rooms had balcony’s and it was pot luck if you got sunshine to sit in, some did some didn’t, the hotel itself was in a pleasant residential area about a 20/25-minute walk to Allasio’s beautiful prom. This brings a word of warning, there are no footpaths along the narrow roads around the hotel and the road was like a bit of a race track at times. There are road markings indicating where you can walk but upmost care was needed when you ventured out and about. There is not much round about the hotel, a supermarket 10 minutes’ walk away, and a couple of restaurants, oh and some kind of stadium, not sure what was played there but nothing was going on whilst we stayed at the hotel. Overall a good experience and despite some misgivings about staff levels the ones we saw were excellent in their endeavour.
